Just to those who don't get this (and I can see some comments complaining so I'll throw my 2 cents in) this show is about "engineering connections." It takes a subject like the Airbus and looks at particularly clever aspects that are used in it (usually to troubleshoot problems that are intrinsic in the subject design) and where those inventions originally came from. Not what other things those inventions have been used on before, but where they came from in the beginning. So it would be very nice if people would stop complaining when they misunderstand the premise of the show.

Mongol bows were all well and good,though they suffered an extreme design flaw.The glues they used to bond the laminates were water soluble,this meant they didn't last long in wet weather.

are you suggesting the composite they came up with would come apart when it rains? If not, then why the FUCK did you bring in glues into the comment?

gaptoofgranny I was indeed referring to the glues used in the composites,the composite being composed of bamboo,horn and sinew bonded together with animal glue,which was water soluble.The bows had to be protected from getting wet,especially when it rained.Composites can be composed of lamination's,granulated materials or fibres bonded together with a bonding agent (usually glues).Glues/bonding agents etc are a vital part of any laminate.Carbon fibre for example is bonded and given shape by being saturated with epoxy resin and laid out in a mold.The resin chemically hardens via an exothermic reaction (I.e.it heats up during the curing process).The epoxy can be used to bond composite components to other parts etc. I hope this answers your comment :"If not, then why the FUCK did you bring in glues into the comment?"

silver760 well that's real nice and all.. but like every other nerd that thinks they're smarter than everyone, you missed the point of that section. they weren't referring to the glues, but to the fact that the engineers needed to create something that's stronger than a single material. hence; the idea coming from composite bows. Now, go learn how to understand a point and fuck off.

gaptoofgranny Yes.the Mogols had to be careful to prevent the bow from collapsing/failing if it got wet.In normal use,such as hunting this isn't much of a problem as you can keep it covered until use.Problems arise when it comes to battles and wars as the weather could not be relied upon.As they traveled south raping and pillaging they found the further south they went the wetter is got and it did become a problem.

Not in English speaking Houston, TX. I forget, who won the American War of Independence? Who won the War of 1812? Who pulled the English chestnuts out of the fire twice in one century? I'm proud of my American Southern English grammar and accent and I know a "boot" is what I wear and a "trunk" is where I store my spare tire. Also, I drink coffee. Other than that, we're all good.

Good structure of the tv show. Good link and good transition between the differents parts. But you don't know if what he said is just an explanation of the principle of the technology or the way the technology was inveted.

saying airbus invented winglets is absurd. the technology is really old. patents that go back to the early 1900's are recorded in the use of winglets.

This Hammond's video is getting to act much like many of the travel channel videos in that they keep saying the exact same thing Over and Over and Over - Constantly repeating themselves. This video is about twice as long as it needs to be - and That problem causes boredom and distraction. If they'd simply tell us, show us, and then Go Onward to the next fact - we'd pay more attention.

I'm pretty sure it was aired in America. If you compare many documentaries between the British and American versions you'll see this again and again and it really does ruin shows. (I'm pretty sure that's a National Geographic logo in the corner? And one of his other episodes from the series that I watched didn't have this problem to this extent.)

At 30:50 Hammon claims the A380 is the longest airliner. But both the A340-600 and Boeing 777-300(ER) are longer...

Not a bad show, but like most programs these days it moves far too slowly. this show should have been half the length at most to keep it interesting. Unfortunately, it would probably cost the same amount to make and therefore not be economical. Pity.

misleading... suggesting the A380 was the first aircraft to use winglets to improve wing efficiency.... They were introduced on Airbus and Boeing jetliners and many other aircraft almost 40 years ago.

But it is understandable, after all, you are a American that just elected the most ignorant and stupid president, another Republican even after the G. W.
