I met Richard in Kensington not that long ago. Such a nice guy. I only briefly spoke with him....obviously did not learn all of this about him until seeing this video. My husband lost his wallet and he helped me find it!! Honest dude. I grabbed it but he could have grabbed it and ran if he wanted to. I did give him some $$ bc i wanted to he did not even ask.

Richard is a prime example of why Kensington needs to clean up ASAP. He is a victim of what his environment was growing up and 20-25 years ago when he was a kid it wasn’t nearly as bad as it is now. The poor kids who are growing up in Kensington are handicapped just for living there. Gentrification is on its way but not soon enough. The City (Mayor)has to step up and protect its citizens now. Twenty years from now Kensington will be the hot chic neighborhood like old city and northern liberties were and Fishtowwn is becoming. In the meantime a whole generation will be lost. Clean this mess up now,!!!

Ho God, I met a very handsome boy, but when I found out he was addicted, I ended the relationship because he did not want to give up the drug. I suffer but I do not regret the decision. This guy reminded me of him. And for a moment I thought I could also be in that situation if I had not chosen to end the relationship. Mal your one of a kind❤ & anyone struggling with drug addiction can always turn their life around.I was an addict for 14yrs but been sober for 3yrs & while im far from perfect,it's so much better.I got a job at McDonald's,moved up to being a manager within a yr & been there 3yrs.Working helps keeps the mind busy,plus mke $ to get by so to the dude u interviewed stay strong hun,you can turn it all around I promise,just try.Put as much time & effort into staying sober & u did getting high.Before you know it you'll hve it all back together again & feel proud of yourself.I promise you it's better on this side.Also Mal the way you don't judge people just care is how we should all be.I always try to be that way myself because i'm no one to judge anyone else.

If your not taught better and drugs are all around you from family then how would you know not to do it. If one of his uncles or anybody in his family got him out of that environment and have shown him a better way of life he would be in a much better situation. Lord please help this young man. Keep him wrapped in your arms and let him know if nobody in this world got his back that you do.

so many of these folks say their wishes would be to be with their kids, families, and working, and off drugs. My husband asks me why I watch these all the time and it is precisely for this reason; they are constant reminders of how good I have it in life. It makes me realize and count my blessings, things I take for granted. Richard is humble and hurting. He had an awful childhood and seems to still be in pain from that. He never had a good example. Bot oh man does he suffer. I would hate to be in his shoes. I hope he can find his way back, but Im also not overly optimistic, so many in his position lose their lives to drugs.

There's a black hole in every state , we just don't always see it. I've been a addict since I'm 21 and I'm now 46. I've moved halfway across the United States to get away from drugs but the first week in a state and town I never even heard of was how long it took to find out my neighbor used drugs. And a drug I've never used but have been doing it everyday since . You have to really wake up and decide what you want out of life. Some people wait till they hit rock bottom, some don't make it. And then there's the few stuck in between like me because I live a somewhat double life, and don't let people see me using. Now its boring and I'm not getting any younger, so I have to choose whether I want to live or die. I'm just scared of what stress in life is like without the numbing. I haven't started that chapter in life but I refuse to let my story to have a unhappy ending, I've fought to hard to keep my looks and health up!!! Addiction is the response to suffering. When your brain is trying to find a solution to a problem. People, especially with immense trauma, cannot handle that much pain. We shouldn’t have that much pain. And with pain and sensitivity, comes deep empathy. I know so many addicts that are the most gentle people in the world with so much light. They just can’t see it because they’re trapped in their pain. I love this insight and these questions from Dr. Gabor Maté- How come you’re in so much emotional pain? Where did the behavior come from? What are you still carrying inside that’s making you behave that way and how can I help you resolve what’s inside of you? Not just how do I help you change your behavior but how do I help you change? We can guide you to healing if we ask the right questions. The pain is the root of the suffering and needs to be healed to break the addiction. People need support, acceptance, and connection. I'm a recovered addict 15 years clean. Need to change people places and things. There's a rehab called Faith Farm in New Jersey it's faith based. If they have any beds open they will help then get you into a safe place to live.

Sad. Sad story. Not a bad looking guy. Just needs to get healthy. His abscessed and decayed teeth are not doing him any justice for his overall health. He needs to get all of them removed at least. Get dentures later. That is the worst of his health problems. That alone can kill him. So stay in shelter and get help to be clean and you can still go to school. Won't be as easy without a scholarship but it still can be done. Don't dwell on the past. Don't dwell on anything you can't control. You can control the present and the future though. You are in the drivers seat. Don't give up and die. Rise up!
