Lockdown continues in all its exhausting torpor, but Rich has come up with a new game show as well as becoming needlessly annoyed by a very old song. His guest is long time friend of the show and lone self-isolator, Richard Osman.
They chat about whether it’s better to be married or single during lockdown, dealing with the virus, how Henry Kelly might find himself a new job, how much money Michael Palin has, whether interviewing someone means you are now in their TV show, patricide, Strangers on a Train and Osman’s acting role in the greatest sitcom of all time. Plus which tube station has a Z in it? We forgot to tell you, sorry.

Osman is always among Herring's best guests. I love that he clearly listens to the podcast himself. I wish he could have gotten a microphone for this, though. Even an old iPhone headset would have been better than what we got here. C'mon man, you're a TV producer, ffs.

There should be a celebrity version of repair shop. A sympathetic repair to Ali would be a top sequence. You could cry at the end when both his eyes moved. And all done for free !

Programme idea for the post Bumming For Gold slot: Through the Herring's Eye Every week, a miniaturised Lloyd Grossman travels through a celebrity meatus and along the urethra. Contestants have to guess the celebrity based on strategically-placed clues within the urinary tract.

I can heartily recommend the classic Collings and Herrin podcasts for that. There's very little finer for nodding off. Try also the old Ricky Gervais XFM radio shows. Happy snoozing.

I'd forgotten about the Birthday Game podcast. Yes, more of that would be great for lockdown, it would fit in well with all the online Pub quizzes that have sprung up across KZfaq. It's a shame that it seems to have been pushed back to afterthought status.

@@Zolbat Yes, and there is an episode with Victoria Coren on it, and during that episode Reg D. Hunter says 'after this show, we're gonna get you a girlfriend'. It's only wild speculation but it could be where the sparks first flew.

I kind of like how Richard brutally mocks Rich by suggesting that no-one remembers anything he's done and Rich (perhaps weirdly) finds that hilarious.

Rich appreciates a bit of banter, he is extremely humble though, I remember all these comedians who come on here and can't understand why he complains about how 'unsuccessful' he feels he is because they look up to him as a hero.

I'd like to see The Two Richards as a double act. Maybe straight comedy. Maybe a game show. Or a podcast in the old Collings and Herrin mode. I'd certainly subscribe (but not pay) for it.

The fact that I've just found out you can play the Addams Family Pinball game online has blown my tiny mind. It's up there with Terminator 2 and Starship Troopers for best pinball machines.

Imagine my bitter disappointment when I find out that Pinball Arcade lost the rights to The Addams Family a couple of years ago and it's now no longer available. At least I've managed to get Starship Troopers and Frankenstein.

I would've thought a bigshot TV producer would have the best production value. I guess the cobbler's children have no shoes. Was that why you didn't mention The Cobbler. In the Cobbler, is the moral of the story that he spends all day walking around in other people's shoes, but never stops to consider that his children don't even have any shoes for him to walk in? Do Richard Osman's children not have access to broadcast quality film and audio equipment?

I really don't understand why someone would pay a lot of money to buy a quiz show trophy they didn't win themselves. Do they put it on their mantelpiece at home and pretend they won when they didn't?!

Although it is admittedly appropriate in this episode, I am getting a bit tired of the gameshow talk on these interviews, it used to take up about 5 minutes in an interview but it's grown to being almost a third of some interviews now, maybe more in a few cases. I get its Richard's favourite subject but there is more to life than gameshows.
