He stands taller than most, not only with his accomplishments on the racetrack, but also with the way he has lived his life. What I respect most about Richard Petty is his humility. He never says hey look at me and my accomplishments. His attitude is gratitude towards the fans for supporting him through the years and giving him the chance to do what he loves to do. And then he thanks God for the success. Not many other drivers have that kind of perspective

Not putting Wilkesboro back on the circuit would be a mistake , millions of dollars spent to revive the track only to go back to the dust bin of gathering weeds and buildings falling in again.

Richard Petty came up thru the ranks before power steering, cool suits, on tracks often lacking upkeep. Look at his signature...legible and showing the pride he has in his name. Todays spoiled "rich kids" make big money regardless of their ability and rely on sponsorships to pay their way. Sonsors killed to have their name on Petty's car. Petty also knew to separate politics from racing. You need to meet this guy to realize how big he really is. The main thing is he basses his life on God, not the amount of moeny he has.

Why did he not mention how many times that he cheated with oversized engines or that he often raced 2-3 times every week earlier in his career.? Not all were NASCAR, either. Thus, not all those 200 wins were legit.
