When a turning blanks splits, I can usually work around the defects and salvage a few smaller blanks for other projects as I do here. These two blanks are typical.

Always enjoy seeing how you look inside the wood to find what can be brought out. Thank you.

I do not see this subject addressed very much by anyone else. Very useful info. I really enjoy and appreciate your channel. Thanks so much for passing this on.

I do love to see how to frugally use material. And I look forward to seeing that little box turned. (Or whatever else it might turn into. Excuse the pun) Thanks for another instructional and interesting video sharing your skills and insights.

The beautiful part of green woodworking is all the free firewood you end up with.

It's not necessarily firewood if you get at it quickly enough.

Great video and thanks for all the videos you are making. Just wondering what bandsaw you have and what you would recommend. Thanks Brendon

@@daylesfordorganics I'm using a Laguna 14/12. The latest model has a foot break which makes it a much safer bandsaw than mine. It's an excellent saw although I find the blades tricky to change and the lower guides near impossible to get at to adjust.

Use all you can...just a question..do you have trouble selling all those small bowls? In my area you could probably only get 5 or 10 American dollars for the little ones. Didn't think they would be worth your time? Thank you for all your insights.

I used to sell a lot of 2-in diameter bowls with a mini scoop, each helping to sell the other. In an hour I turned at least 10 bowls or scoops so they are worth my time even at $5. Selling small bowls is a marketing exercise - people need to be told a small bowl is ideal for nuts or rings, elastic bands, paper clips, salt, sugar, and anything else small that needs to be contained.
