When something like that happens, just like with Clint, you can tell that suddenly that rink full of opposing players turns into just regular people who have a genuine care for the sport and each other as players

Well no shit Brian, humans aren’t programmed robots. No matter how much an individual may hate or dislike each another individual not a single person can remove emotion towards someone. If a human sees another human in such a situation it’s an instantaneous reaction of emotion that is unconsciously felt. It’s how humans have survived this long.

Zednik ROCKS!! He is a class act, both on the ice and off. And I don't give a rat's ass how many times he says "you know." I'm just glad he's here and going to be fine. Anybody who wants to hear perfect elocution should go listen to James Earl Jones recite the Gettysburg Address, not an interview with a foreign-born athlete. How petty!

I couldn't believe it when I saw the highlights of the accident. It's great to see that he's recovering so quickly and eager to get back to doing what he loves.

He's a real trooper, God bless you Richard! I watched the highlights and my heart stopped when I saw the incident. I was praying for him the whole time, Thank god your doing well!

You can just see in his eyes like "4 weeks, another 4 weeks i think i can play for the last few games of the season" hockey players...toughest guys on earth

@Daniel Worst Richard’s accident was the first hockey video I really watched. Then this interview. I started watching him play. I have a whole new respect for hockey players these days 🏒

Agreed! I thought he was extremely poised and eloquent and he was always a class act.

Him and malarchuk are incredibly lucky. For both of them, had the cut been millimeters wider, the artery would have been severed 100% and they would have died on the spot. I would so wear a neck guard if I played hockey, surprised no one does besides the goalies.

Gets in the way, overall uncomfortable and makes it harder to look around with full motion. I get the shit is scary but with only 2 incidences happening in NHL history and never seeing it happen outside of that, the chances are so low the risk isnt worth the restrictions. Not being able to look around as quickly is dangerous in it's own right with pucks and players flying at you as you wanna know where everything is at all times, see "suicide passes" if you wanna know what happens with lower awareness

I remember a story about how Zed was having a difficult time breathing because of EMT’s grip to stop bleeding…he told Zed….I move this,you bleed out,,,,, I can handle it Zed said
@Myownself4412 жыл бұрын
Don't be a jerk and make fun of him. He took the injury like a man, where you would be crying on the floor. When you sever a caroted artery, you can say whatever the hell you want

I love how when something severe like this happens (like with Clint Malarchuk) all of the team rivalry instantly drops. Opposing players and fans forget all of the on ice grudges. They all come together in support of a fellow human being who is in need of help. That's the meaning of sportsmanship right there.

One of the most shocking moments in NHL history, It's too bad this overshadowed a pretty solid career.

+JRockGalaxy it did? according to you? pffft.
@JRockGalaxy8 жыл бұрын
Yes, a guy getting his throat hacked open with a skate is up there with the most shocking injuries in sports history, let alone hockey history, whether you think so or not. Unless it's just a normal occurrence for you.

Dont worry, this doesnt happen often. Even if he doesnt wear a neck protector he'll be fine, this is a sport with 90 mph pucks flying and we only wear visors, if you're that worried maybe dont pay attention to your bro's sport it's only gunna get in his way

Damn, I remember that. I gotta say, everyone after lightning fast. No B.S., he automatically knew and FLEW to the bench, and it was just get him in the training room on a gurney and off to surgery. They instantly flew his family to his side. Thank God everything was instantaneous.

It was a miracle he survived. Even for medical professionals it is extremely difficult to repair a major artery in the neck since constant blood flow to the brain has to be maintained etc. Adam Johnson's tragic death after being kicked to the neck proves how extremely lethal these incidents can be.

@kitickask That's true! Slovak language as the other Slavic languages is very colorful and rich of variation - English is limited and simply doesn't have expressions for things that Slovak has. In emotional moments it's difficult for every Slovak to translate our complicated thoughts to English...

How do you save someone with a cut throat?
@psychomikeo12310 жыл бұрын
Don't take this as actual medical advice, not sure, but it's my understanding you stop the bleeding by (like the trainer did with the towel) covering up the gash before too much blood is lost (which, with arteries running through the neck, is rapid).
@hutch111111110 жыл бұрын
It is possible, a Brit had a similar thing happen to him in Afghanistan and his buddy rammed his knee into his neck and stopped the bleeding and he lived. We all learned from that incident.
@hutch111111110 жыл бұрын
And it was from an IED not a skate of course!

From what I have read about the malarchuk incident (which was similar to this one) The doctor present stuck his fingers into his neck and pinched the artery. One hell of a guy huh

What about clint
@Elthenar8 жыл бұрын
+Jagger Brown Clint Malarchuk, a goalie for the Sabres that suffer a similar, if not worse, injury to this. He took a skate to the neck and was in real danger of bleeding out on the ice. It's been said that then only reason Malarchuk didn't die was because the head trainer in Buffalo at the time was an Army medic who served combat tours in Vietnam. He knew to immediately reach into the wound and pinch closed with his fingers. The crazy thing is that both injuries happened in the same arena at the same end of the rink.
@dumbass70558 жыл бұрын
+Elthenar Malarchuk's injury was in the aud, this was at First Niagara Center (HSBC Arena at the time)
@Elthenar8 жыл бұрын
