You are not weak for going to a therapist or a counselor (there is a difference); you are strong. It takes a lot to acknowledge that you are human and need help. In the African American community, we have the same stigma around mental health that he described. I am glad he got the help he needed. Rooting for him.

It's just a professional person that helps you deal with your personal problems and guides you on your way. They don't magically fix your problems but they support your mental healing.

So sorry to realise this. The mind is a horrible place to be as a man, the pressure to be always strong is intense. Even when people ask you to open up you are expected to ‘be stronger’. As a man I can tell you to open up is often the last resort before doing something we may or may not regret. Listen no matter how minor it seems.
