Let's put in terms Chris will understand. One of the many reasons Tom Brady is a great quarterback is his ability to decipher defenses pre-snap and know which receiver will be open. Even if he's extremely physically gift (like many quarterbacks out there) but he can't decipher defense pre-snap in any way, then he probably won't be a great quarterback. Knowing information is way more valuable than physical strength, especially in a sport where physical strength isn't as important.

*IF* electronic sign stealing is worse than steroids (and I completely agree), then Pete Rose's ban needs to be lifted tomorrow and he needs to be exactly where he belongs--in the Hall of Fame. We have officially discovered *TWO* more egregious violations against the spirit and integrity of the game than what Pete did. I'm not condoning what he did at all. What I am questioning is whether his punishment actually fits his crime, given their recent stances. Major League Baseball personally invited him to be on the field during the All-Star Game when it was played in Cincinnati, even though he hasn't been allowed to get a job in baseball as a single-A batting coach. If they stayed consistent and treated him as the stain they claimed he was which necessitated his complete removal from the game during his lifetime, then I would have no problem saying he needs to remain _persona non grata_ and remain banned. However, MLB will weigh the profit-making opportunity to the need to adhere to the principles _they define_ and, too many times, they chose profit over principles and temporarily lift that ban, which brings into question the effectiveness of the ban and the hypocrisy of their enforcement. Bottom line: Pete needs to be in the Hall. The 2017 title needs to be vacated, because the Astros got caught. Hopefully, that will make teams think twice about pulling anything like that in the future.

MLB will probably close down the investigation after they're through with the Sox, but know this, these two teams weren't alone. Glass houses and rocks. Even Rich brought up the possibility that Beltran, as a Special advisor to the Yanks, may have brought his "system" with him in 2019. It's, in my opinion, foolish to believe this was isolated ONLY to the Stros or Sox.

Are these sports guys!? I cannot believe this guy doesn't get it. When you know what's coming you do not get fooled a pitch, you don't take bad swings at breaking balls out of the zone, this is a pitchers bread n butter. It means the hitter either drills a ball in the zone or takes a walk. There's way LESS of a chance of striking out or hitting a weak groundball. Basically the hitter is locked-in, and when a Major League hitter is locked-in, has the pitch speed timed (because he knows whats coming), --he can drill the ball.
@fireice94224 жыл бұрын
Beyond the pale!
@gjchawks174 жыл бұрын
It's not even the ability to hit an off speed pitch. It's the knowledge that the low outside strike is about to break 9+ inches down and away for a ball. Laying off every breaking ball out of the zone, get into better hitter counts, get the pitch you know you can hit. The Astros went from one of the highest strike outs per game teams to the lowest in 2017. That's where the cheating happened. They all stopped swinging at breaking balls that are in the dirt that normal batters swing at. How hard is that to understand? Sure the signal can help you sit on a hanging breaking ball, some of the best hitters can crush those anyways, and then you get a situation like the 2019 ALCS. Altuve is good enough to hit a hanger but now we will never truly know. Why would a team stop cheating after it work and gave them a championship. People aren't known for stopping when they are ahead, they always push further.
