Russ is superior in every other department. While both take a lot of sacks, Russ has taken them due to bad/inconsistent O-Lines and pure stubbornness on his part. Fields takes them because he can’t read the field! __________________________________________ *Russ’s Career Statistics* Pass attempts: 5,665 Pass completions: 3,668 Completion%: 64.7% TD-INT: 334-106 Passing yards: 43,653 Passer rating: 100.0 Rushing yards: 5,307 Rushing yards/yr: 442 Rushing TDs: 29 Rushing attempts: 981 Rushing y/a: 5.4 Sacks: 527 Sacks/yr: 43.9 Yards lost: 3,464 Yards lost per sack: 6.57 Fumbles: 103 (32 Lost) *Keep in mind that Russ’s career statistics include two subpar years in Denver in which both years skewed Russ’s stats downward.* If we were to discount Russ’s Denver years, Russ’s 3-year average stats would be that much better than Fields’s, and that would include two injury years in Seattle (2016 and 2021) that produced outlier statistics.

Fields has said in interviews before that if he had to pick someone whose game is most similar to his, it's Russell Wilson. Fields wanted to go to Pittsburgh because he has a chance to learn from and compete with his idol. It also doesn't hurt that they have a proven NFL coach in Tomlin.

@@louischase994 Like I dunno, telling the media all the teams he'd love to be traded to but only these teams, yet change those teams while playing for a team he is currently contracted for. A fanbase doesn't tend to like you very much when you consistently talk about going anywhere else in public in such a manner. Complain about offensive line play quality, but never taking a deal and always taking the shorter deals to maximize profits. Utilized a suspiciously lower amount on his supposedly "charitable causes" on the actual causes himself. It's been revealed he is also not a great teammate behind closed doors, and that his persona he presents to the media is not the one he actually brings to the table. He is a player that apparently wants very much the credit to be his and to be put in positions that don't benefit the team winning games, but benefit him in terms of receiving that credit. Basically, he likes to pretend in front of the media he's a "its on me, what I could've done better" guy but behind the locker room doors he's very much not in the belief its his fault when things goes wrong, and very much his contribution when things go right. People in Denver got rubbed very much the wrong way when he hadn't done a damn thing but they had given him a private office in the Broncos headquarters, and while he kept a "open door" for teammates, it was very clear he was treated in an absurdly special manner. Which is also unlikely to be true as well if what his teammates like Lynch mentioned about Wilson in Seattle in short "You had to go through 'his guys' if you wanted to talk with him." That's extremely bizzare for someone who is not an executive, to treat people as if they have to get privileged to speak with him. None of this accounts for the fact he hasn't played well or consistently in years. People view the TD/INT ratio, but not the plays down to down that actually imply if he's a good QB. People who find the things I mentioned abrasive will double down on disliking a guy like that when you're not winning games that matter but getting paid like you do.

I'm not giving up on him completely, largely because he played in Chicago which is notorious for QB's failing instead of excelling...but the needle is leaning in the direction of me being unconvinced that he's a NFL championship caliber QB. I'm not seeing it.

@@tajzikria5307 Yes....but those were moments, that's the key word, and those moments tended to go POOF! in the 4th quarter for reasons I cannot begin to understand and...he reads the field (pun intended) rather poorly. He's yet to demonstrate timely decision making on a consistent basis in regards to following multiple receiver progressions, which was something guys like Brady or Mahomes do (or did) very well. Fields is a two-dimensional QB in a 3 dimensional game...I'm not bailing on him yet...but if he shows zero growth in the next year or two in those areas, he's done as a prospective career starter and will become a journeyman backup if he's lucky.

There is nothing about having 2 QBs that were starters last year. What is troubling is despite all the QB injuries last year teams are not securing a bona fide backup. Chicago Bears have rookie starting with no backup?

If Fields struggled to operate two different offenses in Chicago with the focus of someone brought in at the cost of two first rounders, then why would someone think he will learn this one with fewer reps and focus from the coaching staff? Honest question, which QB who has struggled to pick up offenses and read defenses got better with less reps and focus from the coaching staff?
@tinman85

those offenses were garbage, and the same question can be asked of russ.
@moonytheloony6516
@moonytheloony6516 23 күн бұрын
@@tinman85 No. Not really. Wilson has succeeded at a level that Fields has yet to even begin to reach. Granted, questions regarding Wilson are fair, but he has at the very least a resume in which he's shown something on the biggest stage, and for a number of years he did very well at the QB position. The same cannot be said of Justin Fields.
@tinman85
@tinman85 23 күн бұрын
@@moonytheloony6516 its wild to me that people use +7year old tape to validate Russell Wilsons competancy as a QB. Reality of his situation is that if he was still that player, he would be with Seattle, if he was still even 80% of that player, the Broncos wouldnt be paying him 90million dollars to play elsewhere. Is Russ a better QB than Fields? Yes, probably. Is Fields a better athlete? Yes, by alot. Maybe its recency bias, but alot more current successful offenses revolve around QB mobility(even if not as an outright running threat, but through bootlegs/PA plays, or improvisational play extensions) and that was Russell's strength too, but maybe through age, or a lack of confidence, he has lost that. In my opinion, its more realistic to evaluate/compare these guys based on the last 3 years rather than pretend Russell Wilson is still a perennial pro bowler.

All the Steeler podcasts have gone immediately to the Wilson vs.Fields topic because that discussion will garner excitement, division, and drama, which does make cash. I haven't seen a Steelers' podcast yet that breaks down both Wilson's and Field's last two years of QB tape. That would clearly show why both were discarded and available at such a low value. That, to me, isn't being completely transparent for the shake of selling either hope for cash or to sow emotional division for profit.

if fields doesn't beat out wilson at some point, even as a steeler fan i can guarantee you 1 thing, fields will not be getting any garbage time duty due to the steelers having a huge lead, as even in victories over the last decade, the majority of the steeler victories have been 1 possession/mostly 4th quarter games(no matter the opponent), plus mike tomlin in 16 years has never coached in a game that had no playoff bearing(which i think is just an amazing accomplishment and as a REALISTIC fan of the steelers i APPRECIATE his performance in possiblly the most competitive league in ALL OF SPORTS)----"WINNING AN NFL FOOTBALL GAME ISN'T EASY"

My mom is a diehard Steelers fan. Let me tell you, she is 100% booing the Browns more than the Ravens. Might have something to do with that whole other Browns situations and the fact that she doesn't exactly hate Coach Harbaugh up in Baltimore but for her it basically goes F*ck the Browns, tolerate the Ravens, kind of dig the Bengals cause she always says Joey B is like her lost son and of course yellow and black all the way. She'd probably have gotten married in Steelers colors if that hadn't been a more conservative time...

Unless Justin Fields drastically changes from his mindset in Chicago, he will never be successful. And lets be honest, people don't change. But he'll inevitalby get his chance somehow. Whether it be from injury or out of contention, or just a blowout second half. Fields has gotten better, but I still just call him a glorified running back.

The chances of Russell having no injuries (especially how he hangs on to the ball) during the whole season are slim to none so of course Fields will have a chance to start; this season is basically a PR Scam… the Steelers HQ is trying to prove to its aging D they are actually trying to win (instead of just beign happy to have sellout stadiums and merchandise) and at the end of the season they will decide which QB to keep
