Michael Schenker's a guitar genius, without him we wouldn't have a whole generation of guitar axes in the 80s and more, he shaped the modern hard n heavy guitar sound, he was already on top of his game way before Van Halen or Rhoads that have been deeply influenced by him..

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for giving Michael Schenker his kudos! Younger generations need to know that bands like Metallica etc. owe so much to Michael Schenker's pioneering work. Even guys like Eddie Van Halen have given credit to early Scorpions and UFO for their approach to playing what was then called hard rock guitar.

What I love most about him is what comes through in his playing and what he cares about is the music. He doesn’t care about showing his chops as a player. He understands what he wants things to sound like and then what does he need to do to get that sound. He understands the history of the instrument and what each player does to achieve that sound. This way when he has ideas, he just reaches into his tool box and uses that approach. Having a “style” means nothing to him. It’s about the song, the sound and what he wants to say. He’s a musician and the guitar is just now he chooses to express his musicality. I don’t think music is the result of his guitar playing, the guitar part is just an expression of the music.

Nice interview. I think his explanation of the notes and the space between the notes is very insightful and helpful. It’s great to have high level technical ability, but it has to be deployed musically so it helps say what you want to say and isn’t just gratuitously dumped out to the detriment of the musical message

In fact, when he went to describe great technique, the first two guitarists he talked about were Michael Schenker, and Michael Schenker! Michael Schenker, if you’re reading this, I don’t think you’ll find a higher compliment than being two of Richie Faulkner’s greatest influences.
