I loved that song back in the day. I saw them play at the CNE in Toronto one year and really enjoy their performance. That was a long time ago. The sixties were a great era to have grown up in.

I remember them playing at the Balmy Beach Canoe Club in Toronto when I was a teenager. We use to stamp our feet as the song started in time with the music! Great memories!

Sad to read that Doug Chappell died December 3, 2020, after suffering a massive heart attack, at the age of 77. Richie Knight & The Mid-Nights were a staple at highschool dances, and this song was popular on CHUM & at our local skating rink on Saturday nights.

Started singing this song to myself a few days ago. It became an earworm until I finally came here to scratch it;) Great old 1960s rhythm piece.

They sounded like a Chicano group. I saw them perform live in Los Angeles in 1963.

Sorry.. think you are mistaken.. They barely made it out of Ontario let alone toured CA.. I should know... My Dad was their drummer. I think you referring to "The Sevilles" who recorded the original version. Not this band.

@@lornestein7248 Your dad did an awesome job in this song. The first that I remember when I heard this song as a kid was the drumming and being a drummer myself, I can appreciate it even better!

These guys used to come to the Mountain "Y" in Hamilton and play at the dances there. I heard them sing this song before and after they recorded it. You could hear the difference in the way they sang the song after the pros at the recording studio polished them up. As I remember, it sounded better before they recorded it.

I don't recall seeing Richie Knight at the Mountain "Y" but maybe later in the 60s do recall seeing David Clayton Thomas and the Shays perform there. Too bad we did not have social media and smartphones back then? Does anyone have any videos or even group lists of Mountain "Y" dances? I was on the dance committee at the Grimsby & District High School in 1967/68 and recorded performances by Bobby Washington and the Soul Society and well as The Fraser Loveman Group.

The Sevilles version from late `60/early `61 is better. This is very white washed compared to the original though the sax player is good.
