Just found a video the other day about the war that caused the English language. Basically after it was all said and done, you had a group called the Normans and then the AngloSaxons. The Normans purposefully changed letters around and words to be different from the Anglos. Merchant vs salesman. Where vs hwere. So literally messed up on purpose.
