Richie has been a huge presence in the Tour the last decade and I’m certain he would’ve won at some point if not for that crash. He’s the best mountain domestique ever. No one really dominated their own hill the way he did with Willunga and it’s little things like that that make him one of the unspoken best of the past decade

A great rider who conquered my heart on and off the bike. Too bad we won't see you in the pack again. Unfortunately I never got to meet him in person, but Richie Porte will forever remain one of my absolute favorites.

Richie has been a great rider to watch over the years. You scared the sh!t out of us when you crashed big. But you recovered and have achieved more than you think. I have a wonderful memory of meeting Richie in a 7-11 on the main street in Utsunomiya, Japan when he was in town for the Japan Cup race. I was amazed how down to earth he was and super polite to my wife who was a little star struck. Well done on an amazing career and thanks for all the memories.
