Rich, you have my utmost respect for uploading this fascinating interview with Sam. I'm afraid many people are too attached to their narratives and will cover their ears, but you've done a lot of good for the sake of truth and honest discourse. The clarity and cognizance with which Sam Harris speaks on these topics is what draws me in, because I generally share his viewpoints on many things, but haven't done the level of intellectual rigor (perhaps not wired to either), where I can express these topics in such an eloquent way. @@anthonyfox477 The protests are simply not useful and clearly have an antisemitic basis otherwise there would be mass protests against the slaughter in Yemen, or the significantly worse slaughter in Syria, or the slaughter of Christians in Nigeria, etc. I'm against mass civilian death in Gaza but I correctly recognize that Gaza's government is an evil death cult that is using its people as meat shields so it can hide and sue for peace despite actively holding Israeli hostages among its civilians.

Hitchen's commented many years ago that having TWO messianic cults wanting the same space will not likely end well or peacefully. Both sides insist that god is only on their side. Current troubles seem in large part to me to be a result of the Balfour declaration in 1926? I have listened since Golda Mier and Edward Said days to both sides but there seems to be no statesmen today from either side working toward sharing the same space and living in peace so we continue to have death, hatred and war. Think about this Jennie, if Israel was committing a genocide as you claim (like Hamas has done on Oct 7), why are there still living Palestinians? Israel clearly has the military capacity to level Gaza in its entirety, but why don’t they? Why did they drop pamphlets warning civilians of the upcoming missile strikes? The reason is democratic Israel is targeting religious extremist terrorists who intentionally use their own innocents as human shields, whilst stating they want to eliminate Israel and the Jewish people. I’m an American atheist (no association to Judaism), the morals in this situation are clear as day. Hamas does not want peace, innocent Palestinian blood is 100% on their hands.

@d.s.6268
@d.s.6268 3 күн бұрын
Only if you buy into the misinformation about what's going on in Gaza. Because genocide is not happening, and yes it's clear in what side evil resides. Netanyahu is not doing great evil, he's waging war after being attacked. Had he waged evil, this war would have been over in 2 weeks, because there would then truly be just endless indiscriminent bombing in Gaza like people such as yourself believe are happening now, rather than a house to house ground troop war for the most part, that has Israeli soldiers killed and wounded on a daily basis where that would not happen if Netanyahu just didn't care about civilian lives and bombed the Xhit out of Gaza to prevent Israeli soldiers from being killed and finish this war in no time. The fact that he does not do that and people like you still claim he does is the real tragedy and misconception of this current conflict. Get your facts straight.

@@MattAngiono My comment about coming to the centre was not about politics but about people being held accountable for their actions and freedoms being balanced with responsibilities. @@MelodyProsser I'm certainly on board with that. I'm just so used to us being manipulated with this fake left vs right game that used to chorale us. I agree that responsibility isn't mentioned enough when it comes to talking about freedom. Part of the bias of thinking freedom is inherently a good thing in our culture. But it's not like anyone wants a society that grants freedom to cheat, steal, murder or con people. I think we do a service to each other to talk about the things we don't want the right to do just as much as the things we do.

There is an answer/solution to the question of what is consciousness. Two epistemological 'puzzle pieces' in the solution are 1) thought is physically made of forces flowing through neural structures that include loops, comparitors, and differencing, and 2) existence is always and exactly now (the duration of every Now is zero). This is why when being in states of flow, the sense of time disappears. After experiencing this, and with practice, one can step into this state by simply choosing to BE. The causal continuum that is the universe is just running. Enjoy the ride.

Keep it radically and thoroughly simple. Self-awareness reveals thoughts arise without a thinker. Continuing self-awareness realises itself as the consciousness that contains all things, simply because there is no thinker, so there is no world external, nothing outside you. The emergent properties of this realisation are love, bliss, and wisdom. All that is left to do is to maintain self-awareness, acting in complete freedom.
