@PlayerZeroStart

@@Furyfrags I think HL3 taking so long moreso has to do with Valve's focus on innovation. Every half-life game has been revolutionary in some way. Half-Life 1 basically invented FPS games (it didn't, but it might as well have), Half-Life 2 came out in 2005 yet could have come out today because it just holds up that well, and Alyx is the best VR game on the market currently. It seems as though Valve doesn't want to just release a new Half-Life game, they seem to be waiting until they can do something revolutionary with it the same way the previous games did.

fun fact: the spy originated as a bug that would let a player spawn at the other teams base with their colours but still not be on their team, which became commonly used in the community (you could still damage the "spy" player in this bug)
@chrisdavis2161
@chrisdavis2161 10 ай бұрын
this sounds made up... I remember there was a "spybug" but the class was created before the bug was surfaced... I remember it being more linked to switching teams. you would switch teams to balance the server but your character would change to a different team but not switch colors, so you would be a red person in the blue team spawn and no one could kill you... eventually the server would kill you for the illegal action

@@LividImp day of defeat just had basic "classes" that were just for different guns and it had small maps. "Brotherhood of arms" was going to be a modern, class based, vehicle combat, big map game. That definition was essentially battlefield before battlefield was even a thing as bf 1942 was released in 2004 while TF2:BOA was going to release in 1999 or 2000.
@LividImp
@LividImp 2 жыл бұрын
@@bulletghost3452 I used to play every one of the games mentioned in this video (accept the unreleased ones obviously). None of the games back then had side-grades like TF2 does. It was all just "basic classes" as you call it. And most BF players liked the smaller maps with less vehicles (much to my chagrin). So most of the time you'd get stuck on those maps anyway. Bigger maps only make sense in games with lots of vehicles, so there was no reason to make large DoD maps. I didn't like DoD as much as BF1942 or BF2 (as I am a big time vehicle guy), but it was mostly the same experience once you stripped the vehicles away. I'm not saying Valve shouldn't make a modern BF clone, I absolutely wish they would, specially BF1942.

Maybe a major new gamemode like MvM. The world was absolutely inundated with "realistic" shooters about then in the CoD, Battlefield etc. series, while TF2 kinda clung to the earlier roots of more abstract FPS games like Quake and Unreal. TF2 has gotten goofier over the years; it was always somewhat lighthearted in tone, but it played it's 60's spy/action flick setting a little straighter than it does now, the outright ridiculous backstory with Australium and Abraham Lincoln perfecting rocket jumping came later. TF2 was flanderized, I guess is how I'd put it.

That's a nice sensationalist take, but not how Valve operates. Gabe rarely, if at all, makes decisions about what his employees do with their time -- if TF2 isn't getting updates (which it is), it's because nobody at Valve WANTS to work on it.

@@snowtyler Thank you. It's angry, sensationalised reddit-ass statements like those that make the game appear far worse off to the rest of the community and paints a very unfair and inaccurate version of Valve to others. It's just simply not true.

TF Classic was so much fun to play and hell, it still has its dedicated playerbase these days which is quite surprising. And yeah, the maps from TF Brotherhood Of Arms definitely inspired maps like de_dust, de_dust2 and cs_siege (just by telling from the screenshots available) for Counter-Strike. It's important to note that TF Brotherhood Of Arms inspired the HL1 mod called Firearms which happens to have a Source version as well. The notion of the aforementioned game is there in some capacity.

Tbh hearing about all the stuff in the 2000s and how the internet was there makes me so sad on how i barely missed it. The amount of weird creativity and never ending rabbit holes, of which we can only take quick peaks, is astounding... Like there were huge communities for making weird custom maps, and gamemodes and weird shit, that now are just gone... Everything was steamlined and now we have a boring straight road

The old internet and it's wide array of sites and forums is all but effectively dead if you discount some small niches. Yes, there are still people who mod, maybe more than ever, but to act like they recapture the way things were in the 90s up to the mid 00s is kidding yourself.
