another thing is that community servers are full of tf2 veterans so if that is the only safe option from bots then you better clim the tf3 skill curve real fast.

I keep getting my ass and my 400 hours absolutely destroyed by random gigachads just casually walking around in a TF2 community server. It's very tilting, but it makes it all the more satisfying when I kill them.

This is part of why I don't like playing on community servers. It's not that I don't want to be challenged in game, I like playing against a good opponent and would rather have a very close loss than a steamroll win. The problem is that, even with 1200 hours in the game, any community server i join will either see me and my team get bodied all match, or I'll be on the winning team and contribute nothing at all. It's not "a fair match to get better" when everyone on the serer is leagues above you.

I have nearly 2500 hours in this game and yet I still can't call myself on par with these sweaty players. Honestly your best bet is to get the training bot re-work mod and just play offline, my best friend did that and it feels like the good ol' days.
@skeptic_lemon
@skeptic_lemon 2 жыл бұрын
@@makraw9081 Actually I think you can still improve playing like this. Sure when I'm in a community server I do feel extremely hard pressed to do good and I usually don't contribute much, but with smart play instead of skilled play you can still outmatch the enemy and even get some important picks.

I got into TF2 in 2012, sadly after that they started to kinda neglect slowly Screamfortress, but on the bright aide they shortly after did a lot of cool stuff for both balance and story with the comic… and what about now 10 years later? it feels abandoned, scratch that, is abandoned,thrown to the side just to focus on 2 competitive games and Steam, sigh…that Christmas update gave us so much hope that now is just as dead as the dev team is, how did one of my favorite games for relaxing (not ever having to strictly play seriously as I could just dance around and make a server friendly, till a ubercharged soldier destroys the friendly zone and we go into a war) became a bot fest where I cant get out of the spawn zone without being snipped, other players cheat blatantly, there is song spam and so many more wrong things? , I miss how the game was before with the map only changing after the time was done and you could chose any map easily, tryharding and then just being friendly, achivement hunting, looking forward for the next comic, why did this game had to…die

I'm a veteran. I've been playing Team Fortress 2 since October 18th, 2007. My Grizzled Veteran proves it. I have never been so saddened by the state of a videogame and the company's neglect for it in my life. I can't summon the words to describe it, after all that I have seen of this game. Every period of time. The disaster that Meet Your Match was. It's just...so depressing that it's now sadness and vitriol bottled up between MvM toxicity and a casual that can't make up its goddamn mind on supporting the game or not. If you're not playing community, you just aren't playing, or you're playing painfully. And the company doesn't care. Because they're still getting their paycheck.

Valve deserves every last bit of negative press over this. It's also great that youtubers, "news" outlets, and thousands of people are voicing their aggravation towards the bot problem. Only problem is- Valve has zero incentive to fix TF2, other than earning the respect of their consumers. TF2 is a semi-annual hands-off money printer. They put in zero nearly work for millions of dollars a year via micro-transactions. Since corporations care more about profits than consumer respect, we can expect nothing to change. SO, if you REALLY want Valve to listen, hurt their bottom line- revenue. Stop opening cases, stop using the Mann Co Store, the community market, etc. Use 3rd party sites for items so Valve doesn't see a dime. They no longer earn my money, nor yours. Being vocal won't change anything.

Then aside from the bots overrunning casual, the rest of the game is broken. Many of the upgrades on MVM aren't balanced or are so broken they're useless. I love training mode, it's good to get away from the bots and practice, but the training mode bots get stuck. too frequently. Then there's a limited amount of maps to choose from. All the little weapon glitches, updating things like the menu, and poor quality updates, makes this game old. It's worse that the community has to do SO MUCH just to make it worth anything. It makes me wonder how playable the game will even be 5 years from now, if I can't even play training mode alone. The art style saves it from looking old but its functionality is embarrassing, especially compared to Portal and L4D.

i know of 3 upgrades that have no/limited functionality after 1 tier. many weapons have no upgrades, and many have only default upgrades (which would've been fine, if the difficulty on even normal & intermediate couldn't destroy you on wave 2 with most non-meta weapons/upgrades) some weapons have unique upgrades & mechanics, but are too weak for most waves OR are insanely overpowered & some so powerful it's not used in meta. also spy is still useless/boring outside of sapper's AoE slow & stun, playing as an above average money collector, and doing occasional giant damage.

Team Fortress 2 Classic has been for many months my favorite way of playing TF2. The only reason its still playable at all is that Valve's legal teams (mercifully) did NOT totally DMCA and C&D the project, but the treatment they've shown instead is nearly as bad. Requesting official download links to be taken down until an unspecified date and opaque agreement is made between the modders and Valve is, in essence, a slow and agonizing death sentence. Its a miracle it has a dedicated player base at all, and even more miraculous that occasionally new players can figure out how to play. It's been multiple months and there has been zero communication from Valve. It's fucking embarrassing, frankly.

Combined with the unlimited money printer that is Steam and Valve's open "work on whatever you want" philosophy, it definitely seems like it. @@Myne1001 This right here! I'm glad that Half-Life: Alyx even saw the light of the day, because it proves Valve isn't entirely dormant. It's just, why release a competent fix for a 15 year old game with a codebase full of more spaghetti than the average Italian chef will ever see in their lifetime when you can revolutionize VR gaming with a new Half-Life title? Valve doesn't NEED to care anymore. They can and have abandoned TF2 for the longest time, and gotten away with it. The best thing to do is hope Valve keeps their word and TF2 gets a fix, and not act like they just confirmed the Heavy Update and 5 more years of constant major updates. Stay hopeful, but stay realistic.

I've been saying this for a while so at this point so I've resorted to copy pasting my suggestions in hope that maybe they gain some traction. My goal is for the simplest and easiest(for lazy valve) and least obtrusive(for players) solutions for everyone(but bot hosters) involved. 1. Remove matchmaking from casual and return to the quickplay server indexer. Even community servers can benefit from this as as long as they conform to vanilla standards i.e. random crits and bullet spread on and stock maps, they show up in the index results and get traffic. 2. Create a soft reporting system for bots specifically that with enough reports places a block on accounts joining servers without solving a quick captia on a popup page on a website hosted by valve. This way even if bots hosters try to abuse the system by mass flagging legitimate users the worst that happens is you have to go through a few quick clicks or typing to join a server and the bot hosters get bogged down trying to get bots into matches on top of not having a matchmaking system to automatically funnel them into servers with players to harass. 3. Lower sniper's base headshot damage from 150 to say 100 or 75 while keeping his maximum charge headshot damage at 450 so sniper actually has to slow down and be vulnerable before being lethal to key classes that are supposed to be his counters ( _Spy_ ). Also increase his rifles total charge time so hoards of sniper bots also aren't a huge menace and sniper fits more inline with his 'patient assassin picking key targets' archetype. If you've kept reading to here, thanks 👍 u a real G. I hope even some of these or similar solutions are implemented so we can keep enjoying TF2.

I wonder if Valve could give the community TF2, like since they aren't working on it let the people who want to work on it work, now Valve could still get money from it but parts of the community who work on it could also get a cut, though this would probably not happen it would be a win win. (If serious parts of the TF2 community gain some type of access to the game.)

Tbh it would be better if either Valve openly stated they're gonna shut TF2 officially (But let Dedicated private Servers remain), turn the game into Open source or just make it clear, TF2 for them isn't profitable to sustain the IP maintenamce anymore.

6:22 correction that ui's roots date back to QuakeWorld (released in 1997 but the ui's were likely initially from 1996 or earlier) and was only really updated by valve to have better mouse navigation as it was originally for arrow key and tab navigation. Classic Valve, never changes. They even STILL use part of Quake's code in Source 2 for timing flickering lights.

But than, that piece of code is probably written by superhuman genius John Carmack himself. I mean how many ways are there to code those things. If you got it done right (or have access to a piece that does it right) why change it. No reason to reinvent the wheel when it rolls just fine.

For anyone looking for a really good TF2 experience, I have had an absolute whale of a time with the Team Fortress 2 Classic mod. It was modelled around TF2 circa 2009 (which most people consider the golden era), ran much smoother, the combat was much more balanced, and IMO it even looked better than modern TF2 currently does. I still play the last release that they put out before Valve told the devs to remove the downloads in about September 2021, and there are still a decent number of people on the servers. Rumour has it that if you can find anywhere online that claims to act as a, well, archive of the internet, then it might be worth some digging.
