“Cry For Help” was the first single from Rick Astley’s third album “Free”. It reached number 7 in both the UK and the US meaning Rick was the first male solo artist to have his first 8 singles reach the top 10 in Britain. The ballad was co-written by Rick and Rob Fisher, best known as one half of the duo Climie Fisher.

The cinematography and editing is also spot on. The tight shots, overhead microphone, pan and focus, red/black theme but with a wide variety of outfits made it more dynamic. Lip sync was pretty spot on. Technically brilliant. Also you could surf Rick's hair.

He was so advanced for the 80s. Ahead of his time. His songs resonate even more today than when they were released. Saw him in concert last year and he's still just as talented today. Just amazing.

He is not only talented, hot looking. He has a down to earth demeanor, very kind, funny. He was a millionaire at 22, left the music business at 28 to become a "family man." He has been with his wife for over 30 years, has a 28 yr old daughter whom he adores. Such a good man. I wish we could clone his gentlemanly attitude. The world needs more men like him!

I have a lot of respect for Rick that I don't have for a lot of celebrities. He was a millionaire in his mid twenties and a huge pop star. Instead of acting a fool and winding up broke or crazy from bad choices rick met his wife and had a child. He put the fame aside to raise his daughter and focus on his marriage. What a great man to do that and be so selfless when he could have done anything but that. Today Rick is still playing music and looks healthy and happy and that's got to be from those food choices he made when he was younger.. Rickist have had some great role models and some people on his side because I don't see that happening for most celebrities today

This song is decades ahead of its time. Here we are in 2021, still trying to destigmatize mental health issues, and Rick was singing about it in the early 90s. This should become the anthem for mental wellness!

@@CHUTNEX I hope you are able to seek out help, and someone to talk to about your pain. You need at least one person that you can trust in, even just to vent. As for in-person counseling, I hold very little confidence in any of them. What has saved me thus far, and hopefully pulled me out of my dark hole for good, has been online professional guidance from certain well-respected professionals.

I remember hearing this when released in '91, and being somewhat amazed at what a fine song it is as Rick had generally been seen (at least by me) as another manufactured purveyor of pop tunes for teens. I thought it was a great song then, and still do. The backing vocals are glorious

Reminds me of my late brother. I found myself missing him and my dad lately and I think I've been dipping in and out of depression because I've never really grieved. We carry ON as normal but when triggers like this song come, you realize the pain of losing a loved one never goes. That's why we must cry for help when we feel overwhelmed.

But he didn't have many more after this. The album this came from, "Free," was his first without producers Stock, Aiken and Waterman (Bananarama, Kylie Minogue, Donna Summer), and it would seem audiences didn't know how to react to not having the same cookie-cutter beats as "Never Gonna Give You Up" and "Together Forever." Plus around this time, people were getting tired of crooners; we were just on the cusp of the alternative/grunge/everything-sucks era of music.
