Rick Danko performs The Band's "The Weight" with the Nicholas Tremulis Orchestra. This 1999 performance at Chicago's Metro, was the finale for The 1st Waltz (part of The Waltz benefit concert series for Heartland Alliance's Neon Street). Artist also featured include Rick Nielson, Ivan Neville, Lonnie Brooks, Sonia Dada, Sir Mack Rice, Robbie Fulks, Jon Langford, Alejandro Escovedo, Billy Corgan (and Billy Corgan Sr.) Sammy Llanes, Gary Yerkins, Alice Peacock, and Blondie Chaplin

Hi there, the show was in March 1999 and Rick passed in December. We were one of his final performances, and we know how blessed we were.

I feel so bad for Rick, He got pretty big before he passed away man, such a good guy and awesome singer/musician....RIP RICKY!

Rick was a part of that era man. I love him. That's the deal. We age and become almost unrecognizable. Doesn't change who we were, or are. We each have these moments that are precious and meaningful us. That only we really grasp. The Band and Rick were a part of mine. Check out the song "Rick Danko's in Heaven" if you haven't already. Pretty cool.

This is apparently a song that anyone with real soul can perform. So what if Danko is the best? He's sharing The Weight and the fun with others who want a cut of the fun! Still, n othing like a white boy with real soul!
