RICK OWENS

10 жыл бұрын

This Rick Owens spring summer womens collection is about teams and uniforms. Collective spirit and bonding. the spirit of competition that has us all band into tribes to compete. In friendly ways and vicious ways. teams that might be exclusive or might be inclusive.
Runway shows can be about improbable proposals this is about working with what you have.
Shapes are based on classical shapes tunics, togas, chitons and armor, but rendered in the simplest and airiest of lines. Our collaboration with adidas provides a dynamic note with our limited edition running shoe. Fabrics include tightly woven cottons , rigid megaduchesse, and boiled silk turbogazar. Lightweight washed leathers and suedes are cut into tunics, shorts and jumpsuits we refer to in the studio as bodybags. Shorts and tunics are proposed as an alternative to a minidress.
Makeup: Lucia Peroni (Streeters)
Hair: Luigi Morenu (Streeters
Prod: La mode en images
Special thanks: Asha Mines, Rich Aybar, Leeanet Noble, Lauretta Noble and all the steppers from momentum, washington divas, the zetas and soul steps.

Fashion should always seek to embrace other elements such as dance and theatre and live music and so on.Definitely this is the best fashion show of all time for me.The audience was taken by surprise.. conditioned only to a runway style showing.They were caught waiting for the catwalk models..not realizing the models were already before them.Truly a piece of extraordinary art.The gods are well pleased!!.

I mean its good to use other devices to empower your art but in my opinion the clothes got pushed in the backround, not delivering the energy that the show was. Great show but its still about the pieces and even though they are beatiful, in my opinion they do not transport or enhance the feeling of this show significantly

I’m a longtime fan of this label and have bought a few key, beautiful pieces from this line as well as the Drkshdw and Lillies (loved this one’s signature ruching/draping) labels. I remember being pleasantly surprised when this show streamed. After watching the F/W21 live stream, I looked up this show. I was really surprised when I saw something I missed before: the third group of steppers flashed the Zeta symbol (my sorority). Granted, I probably missed it because I was inconspicuously watching it while at work. Lol. They didn’t get my love of creativity. I’m so happy that I thought to watch it again. I never forgot how Rick Owens impressed me with this cultural and size inclusive show that also demonstrated that you can truly move and live in his designs.

Learning he owns a stolen Egyptian sarcophagus in his home brought me here. I just wanted to confirm it was the same man. So does he like Black people or just our culture for entertainment value? Based on these comments only one person recognized the origins of this performance. It’s called stepping. It originated in Africa. Black American college students adopted it reportedly in the mid 1900s as part of their culture and to pay homage to African ancestry. It began with the fraternities and then the sororities which collectively are called the Divine 9. Some of which were founded on Historically Black Colleges & Universities. And no we typically don’t smile when stepping, especially not the first time stepping as a member of the organization.

This show walks a very fine line between racism and empowerment. It's really in the eye of the beholder. On one hand, it radiates the emotional strength of black women (lets be honest, the white girls dont belong in this. They are tokens to protect him from cries of racial exploitation). On the other hand, this could be misconstrued as a perpetuation of the "angry black woman" racist stereotype. I personally feel that this would have been better received if they *werent* dancing. Black non-models don't need a gimmicky dance. Just let them do what other women do in fashion shows. What message does it send if black non-models are only represented in a fashion show if they are doing some primal dance, making thizz faces, and shouting? In MY opinion, he unintentionally crossed the line into racism, but it is nothing to complain about because this is arguably a step (no pun intended) in the right direction. Poorly executed though. Bad lighting and synchronization. It felt uncomfortably amorphous yet contrived. Not his best show.. nonetheless, it is iconic.

These years later I still don't understand why strong women can't be portrayed as joyous. Strength comes in more forms than hard and gritty. It seems masculine and not a portrayal of a feminine type of strength. I get what was attempted here but I still feel pigeon-holed.
@EA-il7qm
@EA-il7qm 4 жыл бұрын
Piquette LMS I found it more as a jab at what the current modeling industry represents. The women who usually do high fashion shows are tall and thin, they exude a certain elegance...and they are supposed to represent the most beautiful and feminine women of the world. By showcasing these women, it’s saying this elitist business we’re all in is nothing more than a facade. To be a beautiful woman I don’t have to smile, and walk pretty, and wear sparkly dresses. To be a model, to be high fashion, I don’t have to subscribe to any notions. I don’t think theyre meant to represent “strong” women. I think their screams and attitude and solidarity through dance, represents the women who are fed up with the way the industry displays them. I think there is joy in their solidarity, joy in them knowing that the everyday woman...does not have to behave in a certain manner to be respected and or considered beautiful. We can get mad, we can dance like this, we can shout, and doing these “masculine” things doesn’t make you any less of a woman. Exuding masculinity doesn’t detract from everything that makes you a woman....and being feminine doesn’t make you more of a woman. What a world we would live in if we...let women be...and not subscribe masculine and feminine characteristics to everything they do to empower their existence. The modern woman does both....
@gee_emm
@gee_emm Жыл бұрын
Agreed. All the ugly face pulling just turned me off, and I love R.O. Why can’t ‘ordinary’ women be beautiful and strong? Why do they have to be harsh and frenzied? And why is it black women, for the most part, that are portrayed in this way?
