This is the best offense ever, I coach middle school and I have ran it for five years now. The best part is when you see the kids actually catch it and execute it the way you envisioned it. once during a timeout they were correcting themselves and saying lets get it in the post the Laker cut is wide open, One of my best moments as a coach

I coach this for age 13-14 community basketball, which is a 1 practice, 1 game a week, with mixed skill levels. They pick this up quite well, and does not require a lot of micro-coaching during games.

This is the missing piece I needed. I have a 3rd grade team and as simple as it is, I wasn't sure how to start combining the layers into a post. Thanks for sharing

how did ur 3rd graders do with it?

@@uscbme915 We are now 6th graders. I've stuck with R&R. We missed the 5th grade season due to covid. 4th and 6th we went to our division championship. 3rd grade we were 3-11. 3rd grade was definitely a learning season for them and me. They struggled with perimeter ball control and feeding the post (if they posted at all). If I were to do it all again, I would focus on draft drives and driving real estate. If they could handle it, I might have tried x-cuts ( pass and screen away) to create an open pass. Teaching spacing was also a huge win at the early stage 🙂

Thanks @@brianmoeller3539 I currently have a 3rd grade team (going into 4th in the fall) and was wondering how well youngsters can grasp the concepts of R&R or just stick with teaching them how to play (spacing, cutting, etc). right now i'd say our passing is pretty weak (no zip, not coming to ball, scared of catching ball, etc) so i don't know how effective R&R would be. i do like kirby schepp's don't tech them plays, teach them how to play philosophy

@@uscbme915 The pass and cut, along with 5 out spots helped with the spacing concept and to not just stand around. They rear cut now without thinking and it's amazing. The only "plays" I have are against zones. And they aren't really plays. I just restrict my post player to run baseline, stay in high post or to flash. Everything else is the same for r&r. I could have had them set on ball screens in 3rd, but I stuck to my guns. 4th brought more strength and control, but ball handling and passing was always an issue in skill development. I've watched my players jump onto other teams and have good movement and spacing. I attribute that to the system.
