The big tip when restringing it is to hold the tension with a capo at the body end and it’s then easy to deal with the stringing on the post on the head.

Constant quality over the years at Rick's. Great guitars made of selected woods.

The great thing about this video is that it shows that a RIC can produce a much wider range of tones than many think. 2000 GBP might seem like a lot of money for a guitar. But a Rickenbacker is more than just a "guitar" ... it really is a work of art along with being a high quality musical instrument. Personally, I think the 12 string RICs are the top of the tree. But any RIC is a decent peice of kit. So I hope you enjoy owning it and that it gives you many decades of pleasure. Cheers from the Land Down Under.

I got mine over this summer too. It has belonged to my luthier for twenty years and had been his main recording guitar. My one is slightly tricked out, the original toaster pickups were swapped out for Seymore Duncans, which can be switched between single coil and humbuckers. So I guess some would say it is no longer a Rickenbacker. So what. And of course twenty years of luthier love means it does play right. I bought it because I went into his workshop one afternoon to pick up an acoustic he had set up and there it was on the wall , winking at me. “Who’s is the Ricky Matt”? “Oh its mine, decoded time to let it go, thought I’d put it on the wall and see if anybody wants it” (he later told me he had me in mind!). He said take it away for a week to see how we got along. We got along. They are not cheap guitars but even as just wall art they are worth the $2k I paid (for my third hand one which was built in August 2001)! But in all seriousness yes, they are best used for their intended purpose, as guitars. For me as a singer songwriter who’s all about rhythm it has a special place in my small, eclectic collection. Rickenbackers just don’t seem to get in the way of the vocals in a mix, which I think is why people like Tom Petty liked them so much. The other reason I love mine is that they kind of demand that you raise you game as a rhythm guitarist, assuming you don’t want them to sound too jangly. What I have found is that they do not reward being punished but play them with finesse and its smiles all around. Very refined instruments and most certainly not a hooligan screamer.

You are using the stereo Ric-O-Sound output wrong. You don’t use the same mono cable in the Jack. You have to use a TRS Jack that splits into Y mono cables, then you plug it into 2 different amps. Each pickup is routed to a different amp. I’ve never seen somebody plug a mono cable into the stereo output so it’s hilarious to hear the bizarre sound it makes like that.
@michaelpriddis7726
@michaelpriddis7726 Жыл бұрын
No, you can plug a mono cable into the top jack as he does and it’s just like a normal mono output. The other (lower) jack is the stereo one with the trs to y cable thing. It doesn’t help that his amp is a toy, it’s recorded with a phone and without meaning to offend, his playing skills are limited.
@Jeffcatbuckeye
@Jeffcatbuckeye Жыл бұрын
@@michaelpriddis7726 he clearly takes it out of the stereo socket and places a mono cable into the mono Jack, which the stereo Jack is not designed for, hence the need for TRS cables.

I have my 1989 360 for nearly 30 years. No issues. Played through a Vox AC15-sounds awesome. Tried the Ric-O-Sound output into 2 amps-very cool effect.

In the late 80s I acquired a 325JG. The constant tuning and retuning became such a pain in the arse that I sold it on.

Awesome Guitar! I Have The 350v63 & A 381/12v69. The Ric O Sound Is Great With A Stereo Cable & Splitter Into 2 Mono Cables & Amps, So Switch In Middle Position, You Can Have Bridge Pickup Through One Amp & Neck Through Another; Adjusting With Blender Dial. So Cool To See You Enjoying This Classic Guitar! Thanks For The Content.✌🤓🤙

I just use a tele man, Tom Petty yes is known for the Ric thing, but he did most his stuff with a tele. The jangle pf the Ric in the old wiring was a tone cap on the bridge pickup, and toaster lower output pickups. So youre basically just rocking P90’s at this point, in a semi hollow. Honestly, a well set up tele, and a tweed style amp with a bright switch. Youre in jingle jangle city. Or a Les Paul Special or Junior even, honestly, nothing wrong with a Rick at all. I was curious about the neck feel myself. Nobody is describing the neck feel. But the tone is in the old 60’s wiring and toaster pickups. So just run a tele through anything with a clear high end, roll the bass off and you have a Ric tone. But man you cant beat the looks of a Ric can ya. They just look cool as..

I know what you're saying and I know it makes sense (i have a tele!), but nothing looks like a Rickenbacker and when The Byrds and The Beatles used them to such great effect, it's hard not to lust over them. And, yeah they're expensive, but they never really lose their value.

I'd get rid of that "R" and put either a Harp tailpiece or a Accent Vibrato on it. You can buy them through Winfield Vintage. The phillips head screws should be accessible without removing the bridge cover to adjust the intonation. The screw heads should be facing the tailpiece. Anyway, a beautiful guitar!!
@michaelpriddis7726
@michaelpriddis7726 Жыл бұрын
It’s best to remove the bridge cover. Everyone does, just like they remove their covers from teles, strats and fender bass. You have to be able to palm mute in post 1959 guitar playing. Rics are just as stable as any fine guitar. As with any guitar, a good set up and nut lubrication is key. Change strings often and get someone to check the bridge and nut slots for rough areas that might snag a string.

Now I see he is plugged into the stereo jack with a mono cable into a single amp - later in the vid. I don’t think he realises how they work.

Gary, I share your pain ... sort of. I purchased a 330 around the same time. I got bored with it after a few years and was fortunate enough to sell it on for only a few dollars less than I had originally paid for it. In hindsight, I should have purchased a 330/12. I would still have a RIC if it was a 12 string.

I’ve never owned a RIC I had to frequently tune. Use painters tape to hold your strings in the tail piece and remove it when your done. Read your owners manual. How can you review a guitar without understanding how it works?

Beautiful but non-functional guitar. Why shouldn't Rickenbacker, along with classical guitars, produce a more modern, more functional line of guitars that can be used in heavy music? Where is that Rickenbacker guitar for heavy styles?
