@@mp-dd7pn Do what I do....sell the woods!!! Unless you are a 12 handicap or lower, you don't even need a wood in your bag to play to the best of your abilities. The difference is I hit more fairways and lose less balls without the woods.

@@charlieodom9107 People and their abilities are different - every 2nd time I hit a low iron the ball lands anywhere ... often only 10 yards away ... with my 5-wood and 7-hybrid I have much more confidence to get the ball close to where I want to have it ... I see it the other way round: to hit low irons well you have to be a low(er) handicapper ... at the moment I´m at 31 ... and that is definitely not low enough! But if you feel fine with your irons and without any woods - no problem.

Here is a little tip that Rick has shown in many videos: Instead of leaving yourself with that really short crappy chip, try to leave yourself on the other side of the green with plenty of area to work the ball. For example: in the case he used, there was plenty of green after the flag, so aim for the middle of the green by using an extra club. That way, if you do end up chipping, you have the entire green to work with. Also, on your approach shots, figure out what is your most accurate short range. Mine is 50 yards, give or take. Leave yourself 50 yards short, on the side of the green with the most room, and you'll often find yourself 1 putting for par, or 2 putting for bogey, instead of risking sculling it into the next time zone!
@Mr.mallaer
@Mr.mallaer 3 жыл бұрын
@@charlieodom9107 This depends on other factors. Why on earth would you deliberately miss the green in the first place? If you are so good to hit it over the green, then you should be good enough to choose the right club for the job and hit on the green and put instead of chip.

Golf advice is a dime a dozen but I'd really recommend getting good with a 7i on the range. Half swing, 3/4 and full 7i will get you around 110 - 145 - 170 yards respectively with compression. Such distances will likely fit 90% of the strokes you use outside (and near to) the green.

For those golfers who are struggling like me breaking 100 is, consistent ball striking is the key because duffing the ball or topping the ball 80 yards won't help you especially if some of them end up in the bunker. Practice, practice, practice your ball striking and making sure you are hitting the centre of the club face and hitting the grass after the ball because these tips are good enough to break 100 alone. Think about it, you hook it left or slice it right off the tea. Now you can tremendously recover with a solid iron shot with the perfect ball strike

Golf Sidekicks idea of redoing par is brilliant. Cross out all the numbers on your scorecard and rewrite what par is. Make par 100 shots add one stroke to every hole than take the left over strokes and add them to the harder indexed holes. If the hardest indexed hole is a par four off of the original card you have six shots to make your new par. Also dump the driver until you can break 90.

I think one overlooked tip is to play from the correct tees. If you can’t break 100, you should play from most forward tees until you do… then move back one set and repeat

Huggge point. Tees aren't really by gender like I often see it. It's by skill. My dad just tried telling me because he's 62, he should get to play off the seniors. I laughed and said "dad you shoot in the 80s and drive the ball 275yds. No. No you do not" He was both kinda mad but also happy. Just how its supposed to be.

This. I have no shame marching up to the front tees while I work on breaking 100. Of course, I go with friends, or when the course is quiet enough for me to play completely alone, which almost eliminates the odd glances or the "usually, men play starting from THOSE back there" comments. I keep the ball in play more, work mostly on my hybrids and irons, pull out Dr/3W a few times, hit a handful of fairways, and most of all, I keep play moving. Win for everyone. I wish courses that specify gender or age would re-label those tees (and get ALL tees rated for both men and women for handicap purposes).

If you want to break 80, then you need greens in regulation, PERIOD!!!! That is 8 over, which gives you ONLY 8 missed greens, or 8 bogeys. Par 3s is where I had the most trouble, and many of my Bogeys would happen there. Also, instead of looking at birdie opportunities, you should be thinking like Tiger...NO Bogeys. You should be thinking HOW can I play this hole to guarantee a par? If you find yourself ever saying something like if I hit a really good one, or I need to carry this X distance, you need to back up and rethink the hole. Also, don't do heroic shots, because you aren't good enough. Play to your miss. If you know you tend to miss right, then aim a little left. If you know you don't feel comfortable hitting a wood off the deck, then use an iron. If you know you hit your 2 iron best at 230, then don't try to hit it farther. If you know you have a trouble at 250, but hit your driver 265 when you hit it good, then club down and play it safe. The next shot will be much easier from the fairway than from the trouble spot.

one of the biggest things that helped me was to not add up my score until after the full round. I was saying in my head, “if I go 2 over in the next 6, I break 80” and things like that. When I didn’t add up the score, I could just focus on good shots. Also, after the first time you do it, it becomes easier and easier. You get the stigma out of your head and eventually it could become a normal thing. Last year in June I shot 88 to break 90 for the first time and 2 days ago I shot even on the back 9 for an eventual 77. It will come, just be patient and don’t have insane expectations

I’m new to golf, I played maybe 10 rounds of 18 holes about 24 and 25 years ago, I never owned golf clubs. Last summer I played 4 rounds, borrowed clubs. Tour edge reaction 3 clubs. They were former rentals. I ended up buying them from my friend for this year. I usually shoot about 120, and my goal was to break 100 by the end of this summer. Well, I just shot my 4th round of golf this summer, my first three rounds scored 122, 120, 112, today I shot a 96! First time I ever broke 100. Using your tips, and really focused on keeping the ball in play. I’m so happy. It took me 18 rounds of golf to break 100. Idk if that’s good or bad, but I’m totally pleased. Thank you for such great content.

Here is something Rick has said many times that really works wonders. Leave your woods at home!!!!! Take ONLY irons, and use two/three equal clubs instead of a long one and short one on each hole. For example, instead of driver/short iron on a par 4, use a short iron twice, then chip on and 2 putt. If a par 5, use 3 equal clubs, say 7 iron, then chip on and putt for a 6. You want to tell yourself GIR+1. That is Green in regulation plus one shot. You will be surprised how much more fun golf will become when you can relax and just hit the ball instead of worrying about what house you're going to hit today.

@@richardstuart420 that is a major problem. You only need to hit driver a fraction of the shots on a golf course. You are in a boat that I see countless people in. When I learned to play, some 30+ years ago, it was more than a year before I ever hit a driver, because that is the least important club in the bag for a new player. In fact, to this day, I still prefer to leave the woods at home, because there really isn't a need for one on an average club course. I hit my 2 iron 230, which is plenty long enough. If I were in your shoes, then I wpuld start with 7 iron down and get those clubs to where you can hit them consistent, and play some rounds with 7 iron down only from the ladies or junior tees to see if you can make close to par. Once there, then add the long irons, then add the woods back.

Love this guy. My favourite KZfaq golf guru. He’s a great player, great communicator and I really admired how he took advice on his self admitted weak grip from Nick Faldo. His being taught by a master also taught me. That’s inspired coaching. Keep it up RS. Ps: I started playing golf when I retired just before the pandemic. I’m a tennis player really. I missed playing in lockdown. But watched a lot of online stuff. I’m now 18 handicap. That is largely down to the Rick. More than anything else he taught me to lose my ego, know and embrace my limitations and play strategically. The poker metaphor applies to golf: it is often better to lose with a winning hand so you can win with a losing hand. Rejecting the clubs a top player would use to play a stroke and going for what is going to give me the most likely best outcome - even if it looks ugly - is a massive lesson from Rick

Honestly, Trent has the tools he needs. It's mental mistakes and not hitting enough club in most cases. He comes up 20-30 yards short on most par 4s, and the one time Frankie told him to club up he actually hit the green. No one can help Trent but himself at this point.

The best advice, which you didn't mention here, is to play from the correct tees. Many terrible golfers have huge egos and think they have to play from the middle or even back tees. The USGA recommends most people who drive the ball about 200 yards, which is average for most men, to play from the forward tees. No they're not womens' tees, they're forward tees. And you're not impressing anyone shooting 125 from the back tees.
