@@mikecaldwell8417 That's not the joke at all. Although what you say is true on its own merit. The joke is about the suspicious nature around the reported death of Jeffrey Epstein who somehow managed to kill himself in solitary confinement. He was a man who probably could expose many other powerful figures who most likely paid for him to be killed.

Eh, just because you know about Hollywood doesn't mean it's the only place, look up rape rates in the army. Hollywood is just the most public and transparent place, all people look at it so there's the least lost if you talk about harassment and rape. In case of other industries most likely you would be fired and then maybe your life ruined by allegations at work, or by a word from an ex-employer. There's a reason why MeToo started a wave of social media stories in many countries, then we've heard from people most connected to the internet which is a public space, which allows same thing happen as in Hollywood - we heard from journalists, from gaming companies and communities, from fans of writers, then about just rich people like in Epstein case.

Many in the audience are very upset...and rightly so. Gervais said 100% truth....and Hollywood doesn’t like to look within. Gervais represented what the world outside of their world is thinking and feeling. People don’t really care anymore for celebrity... it’s starting to manifest overtly to many of the self seeking, indulgent world that it’s been for ages. Thanks Ricky Gervais, you’re a genius with true courage and heart. Those weren’t jokes at all and Gervais seems enraged at this decadence... thank you.

True dat! What I would add to underline the disconnect between Hollywood and its public is the age of most present in the audience. Don't get me wrong, absolutely nothing wrong with age, but man is Hollywood getting old or what? It was like a sea of grey. Even Ricky Gervais whose in his fifties seemed young and full of spunk in front of the retirement home that Hollywood has become. Times have changed, and as you said, people don't care anymore about the whole celebrity God-like figures that Hollywold is so desperately trying to maintain.

There have been underground rumblings but media has hardly highlighted Hollywood's depravity like now. I am sure they still aren't really reporting everything. @@markcaldwell2831 Ricky was born on a council estate with an alcoholic mother (not to slate her though). Not to asslick, but Ricky worked for everything himself and he inherited almost nothing. If anything, he deserves his success and the fact he still discloses genuine truths and stands up against the Hollywood elite within jokes instead of becoming a snobby c*nt (to an extent lol) goes to show that if anything, he is a great bloke with a fantastic humour.

You can tell who's above themselves and who can take a joke - Scorsese and DiCaprio just rolled with the punches and had a laugh. I think Hanks just didn't appreciate the humour, but the cuts to his reactions were gold. Also Tim Cook looking like "o shit it's me now" - he got off pretty lightly, bet he was like "phew, just the kids producing Apple goods rant, no one gives a shit about that anyway"

Here in the U.K. the newspapers review 4 newly released movies every week. Call that an average of 200 new movies a year. I would wager that you could count the really good ones on the fingers of one hand. Most of the rest will be instantly forgettable. When I was a kid, every now and again what we now call a 'blockbuster' movie would be on general release. It was an event, it was exciting. There would be a queue outside the cinema. But now most movies are no better than mediocre, and are not worth bothering with. Hollywood has had it's day!
