If anything the LGBT alphabet people are the ones dictating other people's moral values by editing their sacred views such as how marriage defined. Standing by a definition isn't bigotry. Two men not being allowed to get married isn't bigotry, it's staying true to the definition of marriage. If they want to create their own version then fine, but don't think it's acceptable to jump into other people's world view, and values, and start messing about, and editing their values, and moral standards because it won't wash.

I'm an atheist, but I can honestly tell you that if your government would try to ban religion, I would passionately defend your right to believe in whatever you want. Why? Because the government has no business limiting your freedom, as long as your actions don't do others harm. Same goes for gay marriage. A man marrying another man doesn't hurt anyone, so it's not your business and it's not the government's business either, and neither of you have the right to interfere.
@Garium872 жыл бұрын
I am actually not really against gay marriage but the argument just doesn't work. Of course, it does affect heterosexual, religious people. Marriage is first and foremost, a religious institution. I understand that this doesn't mean much to you as an atheist but marriage was a religious institution, thousands of years before any modern nation or law even existed. Governments adopted it and now they are changing it drastically. And not for the first time. They will keep doing that until it's unrecognizable.
@theotonkin18882 жыл бұрын
@@Garium87 marriage predates modern religions by thousands of years (oldest records are around 2350BC in Mesopotamia), no religion gets to dictate its definition and it is not inherently a “religious institution”
@Garium872 жыл бұрын
@@theotonkin1888 That's such a phony argument. You know very well that the western concept of marriage is based on the Christian/Abrahamic religious tradition and has little to do with Mesopotamia. But I agree that marriage is a human universal. Gay marriage is not.
@theotonkin18882 жыл бұрын
@@Garium87 just because the west mainly sees it as a religious institution doesn’t mean it automatically is, nor does it mean i have to accept it as such. religion has no place saying who can and can’t get married and you have no valid argument against gay marriage.

Stupid logic. Even if you dont believe in the bible I find it hard to understand how someone who isn't mentally absent can't recognise the difference between a book written as fiction and one written as non-fiction
@danwic9 жыл бұрын
God. The bible is by clearly fiction as it has very little historical evidence to back it up, and what little does exist only does so accidentally. You'd think that Jesus rising from the dead would have made it into the news of the day, yet records that we have show no such thing. Contemporary works of the time make no mention of this. Its a bit odd isn't it? Also the stories in the bible are almost identical to those found in older religions, such as those of the ancient Egyptians. The bible is a collection of fictional stories, dressed up as historical fact, without any evidence to prove it. nothing more. An idiot is one who cannot tell the difference between myth and fact.
@starkiller236109 жыл бұрын
interesting points, however for 150-200 years after Jesus' death the romans still hated him. Jesus did exist and he was crucified whether he was the son of God is a different question. It is likely that if Jesus ever did rise from the dead the Romans and the elders of the Jewish church would have whitewashed it. The next point you bring up, the use of other stories as well as lack of evidence. You would not place an inspirational book into fiction nor would place a psychology book there even if it did not use any of its own stories and its content was contemporary without evidence (Jung/Freud/Kant/Socrates etc.) The bible itself never claimed it was a literal interpretation of historical events or the word of God. Unlike the Quran very little in the bible is said to be a quote from God. As such you could argue that the bible is more of a metaphorical guideline or inspiration on how you should live and how the world came to be and its\our underlying purpose.

Forbidding gay marriage is a purely religious thing. It subjects all citizens to a LAW that is in RESPECT to a RELIGIOUS tenant. So much so that it ESTABLISHES that very specific RELIGIOUS belief as the LAW of the land (as previously and redundantly mentioned). And it's derived specifically from the CHRISTIAN religion. What part of "make no law respecting an establishment of religion" is misunderstood? When they wrote the Constitution, they figured they had a pretty good set of rules. But after some debate they realized "wait, wait, wait a second. . . I bet some assholes are going to try and twist the rules to their favor. Right from the beginning, we better make a bunch of amendments, just to clarify things for those pretentious pricks that are sure to follow us. And for clarification number ONE, let's just point out that we don't give a shit about your personal religion. Keep that to yourself. It has no business being shoved down everybodies throat in the form of secular laws." Well . . . that's what they SHOULD have said. Apparently the first amendment was still too vague.

Love Ricky! This is an indictment against direct democracy and the initiative process. It's what happens when we by-pass our representative form of government and go directly to the people for a vote, and where the majority wins; in other words, mob rule. This is why the founders made the Constitution so difficult to amend. It would be a disaster if the mob could rule instead of having the rule of law within a representative system. Can you imagine a simple majority overturning the First Amendment? This is the reason for the super majority, to stop stupid mob rule over issues like banning gay marriage. It's a civil rights issue, it's not up to the fucking mob.

The way the proposition that banned same sex marriage was worded was weird. And in my my opinion intentionally done so. It was worded weird in that voting Yes meant no to same sex marriage and voting No meant yes to same sex marriage. Many California residents were confused by this and ended up voting differently than they actually meant to.

Our Govt did this too but for referendum on whether to become a republic. Its their way of getting the vote they actually want

Or using the same material from a show he did some years earlier in the U.K. Still funny as fuck, though

Nice topical argument. That's really grasped the zeitgeist. That's like me criticising my Spanish neighbour for the Inquisition. Reaaalllllllyyyyy relevant.
