James germaine this was a ridiculously risky and reckless fight to take for Hatton after the lay off. He wouldn't have had one less fan in that arena whoever the hell he fought. He should've chosen a tough game 26-5 fighter of a similar size, to excite people get his rhythm back and then make a 'call' on his future in the upper levels of the sport. To pick a very tall talented rangy former world champion in Senchenko stylistically bad matchup and a risky one at that. He was so close to the decision win, but so obsessed with scoring a knockout he got himself knocked out. Very sad final fight

I've never been a Hatton fan, but his words before "I want people to be proud of me again" and after the fight are rather sad. I'm not sure he ever really came to terms with not having it/being a boxer anymore. He needs to know that people will always remember him and what he had done for British boxing.
@donjohnson38887 жыл бұрын
Thing is if he hadn't stepped away for nearly 4 years he probably still would have had it. He took the losses to Mayweather and Pacquiao really hard for some reason even though there's really no shame in losing to arguably the best two fighters of the entire generation. If he had just kept it together and stayed in the game he definitely still would have been a force in those middle divisions.

Ricky didn't need to apologize to anyone! He gave it his best shot and went out on his shield like a warrior! We the British people love you and are proud of you! As an ex amateur boxer myself, boxing on and off over a period of 15years, having 44 fights, winning 33, losing 11, I know exactly how Ricky felt after losing! It's heartbreaking when you lose. Really takes a toll on you, especially if you've been working hard towards the fight. I.e. Running 5 mornings a week, gym 6 days a week, sparring hard and dieting to make weight! Doing all that only to stumble at the final hurdle! I remember boxing in the ABA's. I was training and dieting hard (practically starving myself) to make flyweight(8 stone) but on the day I was 3 pounds overweight so my coach decided to put me in as a bantamweight (8 stone 7pounds). I was already weight drained, dehydrated and I didn't feel strong at all but agreed anyway. My opponent looked massive compared to me, and was at least 4 inches taller. It was 5 two minute rounds and I out boxed him for the first 3 but in the 4th he hit me with a big shot and I received standing 8 count. I had nothing left after that and was duly stopped. To say I was gutted would be an understatement! I felt worthless....I'd never been stopped before and I actually shed a tear once I got home! I felt ashamed and I didn't box again for about 4 years. But I couldn't go out like that and went back, had 5 more fights winning 4 and made the 2003 novice ABA final! 😁 I met Ricky once, just before he fought Paq! Had my photo taken with him. He's only my height 5" 5' but he's as wide as he is tall! Nice fella!

He should never have took this fight but I understand totally why he did. I don’t want to say he was finished but he never had it anymore at this point. Still, he trained like he did in his early days, the heart and soul was there along with that twinkle in his eye. The heart was willing, the body was weak. He didn’t want his kids to see him as this washed up cokehead and that was his motivation. Senchenko, however, was handed an opportunity, he was almost a contender when he was offered the fight and he trained just as hard, if not harder than Hatton and he deserves credit. Having said that, in my opinion Hatton was the best British boxer in the last 30 years, better than Benn, Eubank, Limond, Bruno, Ricky was the man.

If he would just try to rethink on why Money Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao defeated him. He should probably have learned that two mega fights. Doing it, he will be very ready to what the others would advice to him, because he already think about it. What I mean is, he should be the one to accept that there is something bloody wrong with his boxing techniques. And probably, the next is acceptance and the need to improve. And even on this degree. The major factor on regaining his career is still his hunger on how he would like his career to be.

When Canelo Alvarez lost to Mayweather, he adjusted , and was better in his next fight. Hatton had to drop 70 lbs. in the ten months before this fight. He Hired a house painter as a coach, because he was a good guy. This is not how to be a professional. That’s great for people who don’t know anything about boxing, but the “ odds” are so much against you in this situation. I think if had taken the time to recover, physically and mentally. Hired a good coach, had a tuneup fight, he was capable of something.
