I just visited singer and former teen idol (Eric Hilliard Nelson) Ricky Nelson's grave site in Forest Lawn Memorial park and cemetery, in Hollywood Hills, California.
Nelson played himself on the popular TV show The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet, from 1952 to 1966. It has the honor of being one of the longest running, live action, TV sitcoms in U.S. television history. As a singer, the show helped turn him into one of the most popular teen idols on the 1950s and '60s.
Sadly, Nelson died in plane crash in Texas, on New Year's Eve, 1985, at the age of 45. He's buried just a few rows from his parents, Ozzie and Harriet Nelson.
In 1987, Rick Nelson was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I still think he has the best Male singing voice. Very underrated, if not overlooked. R.I.P Ricky Nelson.

For some of us who were younger, Ricky was not only a heartthrob, but also the big brother we all wish we had. So kind, so talented… So darn good looking. Rest in peace Rick.

I was lucky to meet him in 1984 after a performance at a supper club. I was able to go back to his dressing room ushered in by security. Was introduced to him. He kissed my wife, gave her an autograph and took time to speak with us. What a great guy.

In the 70s I was underage but he let me hang out at gigs (only caveat was to not drink) He loved that I was a SCB fan, rather than just a 2nd generation "Ricky" fan. Sweet man. Nice guy. He was cool... lol. Very cool. 😏. We were in cahoots - he'd tell the club manager I was his cousin, so they'd let me stay & hear the music.

My mother’s first cousin lived next door to the Nelson Family. On a trip to CA we were guests in the Nelson home and we met Ricky plus the whole family. I was a preteen and adored Ricky and David. A fond memory. I’m glad to see the Family is together with David not too far away. None of us will ever forget Ricky’s gorgeous blue eyes, darling smile and his songs. RIP. Thank you Nelson Family for all you gave America.

You were exactly right saying we all grew up with him. He was the boy every parent wanted for their daughter. Funny, sweet, wholesinw, soft spoken, well mannered, talented, even a little shy. And cute as can be! And he came into our homes on e a week, every week. Heck, I wish my daughters would have found a Little Ricky for themselves! We miss you man!!

I used to live in L.A. and saw Rick perform 7 times.. I also met him, accidentally, one night when my date and I went to see him perform at the Roxy, on Sunset.. I spoke with him briefly and he was the same nice guy we all saw on TV... It's hard to believe it was that long ago.

I finally saw him at the Charles Town Races in the summer of 1984. The stage was set up so the Blue Ridge mountains were in the background. He got out of his limo right in front of where I was standing. He was THE true Teenage Idol. Ozzie Nelson should be in the RNR HOF because he allowed Rick to perform on the TV show, despite heavy criticism from the evangelical right.

I'm 21 years old and have been listening to Ricky since I was at least 10 or 11 years of age. I watch all of The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet episodes and just grew up as a fan of the family. I wish they ALL were still alive. It saddens me, I feel as if I was born in the wrong generation. I would have loved to see Rick in a concert and have the time of my life watching one of my favorite artists perform. RIP to one of the greatest families of all time ❤

Yes, I was and still am a great fan of Ricky Nelson. I was devastated when he died so tragically. I would not want anyone to die that way. So sad. I love to hear him sing. I am so glad I can watch the videos of him singing and watch the Ozzie and Harriet show on KZfaq. Good memories. I plan on seeing the Nelson's in Heaven some day.

Had a special treat in the early 2000's. I got to see and hear Ricky's sons play at the Love Ride, at the Glendale Harley Davidsons, in Glendale, CA. My friend looked at me and said, "They look like twins ". I almost fell over! I told him ......they are RICKY NELSON 'S SONS!!! He had no idea that they were singers, too!! I will always cherish this memory. 💚

Sure enjoyed the TV series: "The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet". Several of Rick Nelson's hits were favorites of mine. "Lonesome Town" and "It's Late" are the top favorites. High quality...that's what the Nelsons showed in their episodes. Life was "fun" to many of us old enough to remember the 1950's. When Rick and his band died in the plane crash that New Year's Eve of '85...it was a sad day for my generation.

I saw Rick Nelson in 1973 at grad night at Disney World. I got so close I could've touched him, but his security team rushed him along. His concert was certainly a highlight from my bucket list, and he didn't let me down! His twin sons continue his legacy of song & gentle kindness. I think of him each time I hear them sing or see them on tv or Facebook.

I loved that family! Such fun to watch them and watch the sons grow up. I used to try and imitate Rick (hard to do since I was blonde). I even put some dark poster paint in my hair for a performance my friends came up with for our senior high school year "Class Day" event in the school gym during our last week of school. A photo of it made it into our yearbook. When I went to wash out the poster paint, turned out it had been dark purple and I walked around with lavender-colored hair the rest of that day. I'm still a big fan of his and love listening to his music! Thanks very much for taking the time to visit their graves and producing this video for us all. I wrote down your directions to the grave and hope to go there one day.

I HATE that people have to die. The Bible says that God Himself will wipe away all tears, and death shall be no more. Yes, I was a big fan ... loved his kid quips in the '50s, and then his music (I, too, am a guitar player/musician) from the late '50s and early '60s. Just one of many musicians/singers I have lost along the way, due to crummy airplanes, heart attacks, cancer or sorry drivers ...

Rick Nelson’s daughter played in a tv show and played a crazed nanny. I forget the name of it though. I loved watching Ozzie and Harriet. Most of the great movie stars are deceased. Thank you for your gentleness in approaching Ricky’s grave. I almost wept again for him. Actually, I did. I grew up with his family every week and loved them all. ❤Chuck

Ricky inspired me to pick up the guitar when I was 8. I believe I saw him perform at Atlantic City N.J. in the early 60's but my memory is vague. May he rest in peace. Thank you for the video.

Yes, I was a big Rick Nelson fan. Like you, I saw him in concert shortly before he was killed. I also saw Elvis Presley in one of his last concerts. I didn't want to go, but my younger sister did so I went. I'm glad I did. Thank you.

I grew up with Rick and during my teens Id watch him every week on the show singing (Elvis never came to your home!) When Elvis went in the army Ricky became #1. Thats how great he was. He was also better looking than Elvis. Very cool. I'll always love his music.

So sad that someone that talented died so young. Loved his songs, especially Lonesome Town. Took me through some very lonesome years, as a teenager. So happy I had the honor of meeting & speaking to his twin sons, Matthew & Gunnar. Very nice talented young me as well. They do a great job paying such an honorable tribute to their dad. They both do a great job singing their Dad's songs that made him so popular & they sound so much like him.

I think it was KZfaq that introduced me to Rick Nelson about 2 years ago and I listen to his music on YT, Spotify, CD and one LP greatest hits. Elvis has been with me forever. I will be their forever fan. 2 other things I like about this video is that you have a very pleasant speaking voice and the grounds look much nicer with the stones flattened rather than erected, first I've seen of this. Thank you for sharing.

Here I am replying late but, I wasn't born in the 1950s, I wish I did though, but I love Ricky's music. The musical legacy he left for us to enjoy is absolutely wonderful. My brother, who collects music, introduced me to his music in the 80s & I was hooked for life. My favorite songs from Ricky are, "It's up to you", "Lonesome town", "Poor little fool" & "Garden Party".
