I got an Aeros last month for making long, asynchronous loops primarily of my synths, and I've only just started realizing its potential. I'm so glad you're covering it! The first of my synths that I tried the Aeros with is my Lyra-8, and it really tames that wild beast. To me so far, the Aeros is like a mini-DAW that I can try out, pair and settle on different stems before even committing to an arrangement in Ableton.

In fairness to this looper it looks like you missed the main draw and the thing that sets it apart - the "locking of loops" thing that you were getting confused about is the key to having both serial (one plays after the other, on one track) and parallel (multiple tracks concurrently playing) loops going at once, which is the whole innovation. Because the loops don't have to be the same length as one another, this can lead to all kinds of crazy song structures and patterns, and you can jump from section to section live, overdubbing/deleting/muting, and even altering loop volume -- and can allegedly do so with your feet once you learn the device well enough 😅. This is definitely not meant to be just a scratchpad or SP-404 replacement; it's meant to be played like an instrument of its own.

@@ryanjapan I totally get the value behind how locked sections work, but it irks me that you can't *unlock* them and that locked tracks have to be sequential to one another. @@vincentverraest2722 For sure. I have a Deluge with the foot controller so im all set. Does all the things a looper should be able to do if you want the strong feature set. Bonus is that its the Deluge so I can take those loops, chop em up, add drum tracks, arrange it, add synths, all in the box. Looper is like an add on which has a ton more functionality than most standard loopers. Even the EHX's. They all have their duties but you dont want to really spend that much time figuring out a simple looper. Tap, record, tap again, stop record. Got your tempo now, record more.

I use this slaved to either my modular (with NERDSEQ as sequencer and clock source) or via Ableton (with CV tools) and it is a tight sync with stop/start and BPM. Interesting. I bought the Aeros, played with it for awhile, then decided it was a bit limited compared to other loopers. I then bought an RC505MKII and was immediately overwhelmed. It was just too complicated for my non technical mind. Now I’m back using the Aeros and finding it’s not as limited as I’d initially thought. And definitely more user friendly.

just got my aeros loop a few weaks ago. it's amazing that the workflow is very fluent with only four footswitch. I love this looper but it's hard for me to say it's more powerful than a boss looper. With a big color screen, the settings menu is still a mess and some little problem limit its possiblity. I really hope it can have some submenu to make it clearly organized And Like boss rc300 it also has more than one output. But in boss rc300, you can set the output ports and input ports for each tracks and even for the metronome and drummaschine individually. in aeros loop, i can only set the output for metronome and the audiorotate for all the tracks but not each of them. And another thing that makes me uncomfortable is i can't turn off / turn on the metronome in song page. I have to save my song, go to setting page, turn off or turn on and go back. Now I send metronome to audio out and plug into a mixer to control the volume and turn on/turn off. These are really small small things, but for the people who sometimes get nervous without metronome it is really important. A great thing is since it's realease, it had lots of firmware updates ( i really like the lock mode in recent updates). It is more flexible than any looper in market and the outlook has a sense of science and technology. Hope it can get better in the future.

As a EHX 95000 user for the last three years, it has to be the centre of the studio timing as it will send but not receive MIDI Clock. For this reason I use it separately as an incredible acoustic guitar looper with an H9 into 2x Roland Ac33 amps. I record guitar loops in Ableton, perfect the audio using warp and send it to the 95000 for precision loops and live performance.

The Line6 green delay with the looper was my first looper. It has amazing creative possibilities, but there’s no way to get perfectly timed loops because there’s no internal clock. The loop length is based exclusively on when you press the record start and stop. That limitation taught me how to create and use ambient style washes that flow over bar lines and don’t need to be tempo synced. I just got the pigtronix infinity looper and it has really good midi in sync capabilities and the ability to slow and speed up the loop. I’m still learning all that it does.

Not a DAW-less approach but I strongly recommend using the built in Ableton Looper with a Nektar Pacer. Initially quite complicated to set up & get your head around programming it but once you do & see how much power you have at your feet you’ll be very pleasantly surprised. Also since you’re using a DAW you have so many more options to play around with recorded loops & in my opinion is a more musical & less fiddly workflow. Plus it’s only around $220 / €220

Not sure if it's been said already, but the compressor section in the daw reminded me about the makeup button. I believe it's the stock plugins attempt at gain control, so you still get the compression with less volume loss. Not sure if that makes any sense, but it does in my brain lol

Having played around a bit with a Boss looper, I'm excited about the display / touchscreen on the Aeros (Boss doesn't have any visualization of the recorded audio). So with the Aeros device you can certainly go a long way with regards to arranging stuff, adding and removing certain parts etc... With the Boss loopers, it's more like editing everything by ear (which is quite interesting and intuitive, but it doesn't give the same flexibility when it comes to move an idea forward - unless you really master the looper...). Oh, and of course, 6 tracks is quite superior to most other loopers. So, don't want to judge which of those is better or not, just have to say I'm quite impressed by this machine :) Luckily it is quite pricey so I can't afford it... otherwise Gear Aquisition Syndrome would kick in once again :D

Its funny the naming the track thing, I have gone through some weird track naming phazes, I used to put a A+ at the end of my good recordings, then it morphed to 22 at the end of track(got confusing in 2022) lol. Still havnt perfected it with Final FOlders always filling up with ideahs and versions but i like the For Real one :) Salute Ricky T

1 year after, what do you think? (RC 505 is good with drum machines, it has a few different limitations + a detailed FX section)

I still prefer the mpc live looper. Preset a bunch of tracks with a midi note then when you assign new loops to pads they will auto play so no need to stop jamming. Thanks for the great video as always :)

I need to have another try of the MPC looper. I got confused when I first tried it so maybe I've gotten more used to the MPC now.

I really wish some loop pedal company would create a pedal with midi transport controls, and the ability to load stereo loops via USB. All us hardware groove box guys would finally have a simple multiple stereo loop playback device that could become a perfect companion to all our drum machines / grooveboxes.

Those loop pies and their blue color remind me of Circular Labs Mobius. Use it all the time. Imagine Gibson Echoplex. but computer powerful and scriptable to no end.

Cool review. Since you ask, all the different loopers have their advantages but the ehx 45000 is a piece of beauty in design simplicity and completeness and sounds super fat. You can record pitch changes with the tempo slider, you can record hard-paned music like Zeppelin or Coltrane stereo into it to get a stereo wave file so you can then practice along with just one side. You can reverse loops. You can use recording mode to make it work as a digital delay and control the repeats from one to infinite (and in this case it will last forever) with the volume fader, like a tape machine, which is also killer for fun practice. You can use the tempo fader, which also affects pitch to record a bassline with a guitar (by doubling the tempo then bringing it back down). And it has essentially 5 tracks because on of them is a mixdown stereo track but you can use it as just a fifth instrument. You do have to buy the separate foot controller though which is kind of a scam (sort of useless without it).

So are you saying the 45000 can do fading/decaying overdubs? Also, is there an undo function on the 45000? Didn't see it in the manual.

@@jojojiles Confirmed on the decaying overdubs in record mode. No, unfortunately no undo on the 45,000. More like do-over lol.

@@jojojiles Most sucky thing about the 45,000 is having to get the foot switch separately, which is a total ripoff, like leaving out an essential feature and charging an offensive and surreal amount of money for it. Hoping the forthcoming Novation Circuit Rhythm can replace the 45,000 for me. Cool think about the 45,000 was having it behind my mixer so anything that went to the mixer including returns from amplifiers or whatever else can happily get looped. Maybe will try the same with Circuit Rhythm.
