Ricoh GR Accessories: nice to have, need to have and don’t bother!

In this video I’ll show you my need to have accessories and those that I think are over-hyped.
I forgot to mention in the video that 3rd party batteries work just as well as original Ricoh batteries, so you can save quite a bit of money there!
In general, I don’t like accessories that add bulk to the camera. It’s got to remain compact for general use in travel and street photography.

I appreciate the image quality of the Ricoh camera, especially considering its compact form factor. I don’t want to compromise this by using additional attachments. My personal must-have accessories include the small Ricoh case and the original wrist strap (thanks for the tip about the aquarium hose). Additionally, I protect the display with a tempered glass screen protector (completely bubble-free!) and a small UV filter (glued on)to minimize dust ingress. The only downside is occasional light reflections, but I counter that by using my left hand as a makeshift lens hood. 😉

Lovely video, very helpful for a new GR III user 😊👍

I consider the standard Ricoh strap is the best strap that I have ever used, although it is truly subject to the GRIII and IIIx cameras. Thanks for backing my point.

I’ve been looking for a case for my GR3 for ages, and have tried a few, but none of them really did what I needed. Just seeing that GC12 with the camera inside it was enough to sell me on it - it’s such a perfect snug fit, exactly what I was looking for!

Agreed, have been using a much cheaper lowepro case for a bit, but found it a tad bulky and overpadded...seeing this case next to a camera sold me on it instantly. Expensive, but there is no competition.

The Nisi filter system looks very good for the Ricoh.

I still use a 8.1 megapixel Ricoh GR digital from 2005. I bought the skylight filter and lens hood adapter. I have never used it.I bought it to use the 21mm equivalent lens. 28mm equivalent lens is perfect for me.

As you and others have stated, there is a risk of dust getting onto the sensor most likely via the lens mount as the lens extends and retracts (the “bellows effect”). One preventative measure could be to mount the adapter on the camera and then add a standard clear glass 49mm filter. This would seal the lens mount and lens from environmental dust, thereby lowering the risk of it getting into the interior of the camera. Adds bulk, but will save the cost of (repeated) sensor cleanings by a specialist. Cheers!

P.S., Note that the adapter can serve as a lens hood by itself.

Will it be possible to design and 3d print a mount for a wide lens for gr iiix ?

I have also invested the huge sum of £4.95 on a 49mm rubber lens hood that screws into the NIsi adapter. With this you can put the camera up against glass and not get any reflections (of the lights behind you or your own hand etc). I use it for taking pictures out of a window that can't be opened, or in a display case in a museum

@@photostuff I got it from SRB photographic, their part no. RBH49WA. It's fine with the GR3x I don't know if you would get a bit of cut-off with the wider angle lens on the GR3. It should be ok - the 'WA' in the part number means Wide Angle (they also do a standard) It says on the product description that the wide angle ones don't collapse and are more rigid than the standard, but it is flexible enough for this.

I've recently got the GR3X and loving it! One item you didn't talk about is a viewfinder. I'm finding that it is very difficult to compose a shot in bright sunlight. Would you think of adding an optical eyepiece to your accessory list? I'm thinking that I could compose with the screen and then use an eyepiece to fine-tune the scene. The Ricoh one is horribly expensive, I've seen a KZfaq video showing how to adapt one from a single use camera for next to nothing!

No, it's not something I want. On bright days I just crank up the display brightness and take more batteries :) Even when it's "too bright" I can still see enough to compose a shot and I rarely have to change settings while shooting. A quick search on ebay for "40 mm hotshoe viewfinder" suggests third party copies start at about $15. If you get one, or make one, I'd love to hear about it.

I also have the Nisi master kit which I love except for the polariser which I agree is useless, I ended up buying a 49mm Circular polariser filter which is a million times better

I' have attached the Nisi 49mm adapter and an UV filter to my GR IIIx. Can you recommend a case? Thanks!

If you're going to keep the adapter and filter on when in a case, I'd suggest a generic neoprene case. But I'm not sure. I only use the GC cases.

Oh! The attached that lets you add a lens hood… tell me more please. How much, will my X100v lens hood fit, does it interfere with the image captured ie does it show at the edges of the photograph?
@photostuff
@photostuff Жыл бұрын
Hi Ormie, I haven’t really used the lens hood with the Ricoh. It came with the RX1r, but I never noticed any darkening on that camera. It’s a standard 49mm thread, so these cheap NIsi adapters will let you mount anything that has a 49mm thread.

Hello there - very useful video BUT I have been unable to find your NISI Filter kit for anything under about £249 (Amazon) or £399! Could you please post your source so that I can enjoy the 'about $19' value? Thanks in advance.

I did a quick search on Amazon UK for "Ricoh GR iii Nisi" and found the complete master kit for £105 and the Adapater only option for £28. But.. I don't shop on Amazon. I bought my stuff online, but locally in Scandinavia. I paid about £95 for the full master kit for the GRiii and only £17 for the GRiiix lens adapter so I can use the master kit and the infrared filter on the GRiiix as well.
