The best "shoegaze" is an assault on the senses. Like a brick wall of sound that's fallen on you and you are struggling to get back up. Love it. (probably why I like QOTSA so much too).

Oh yes yes yes, this pushes all my buttons! Fabulous '90s guitar-driven sound with a superb bassline powering it along. Psychedlic white noise, energetic, uplifting, a dense wall of sound.....thanks for this jon taskmaster

This song is my favourite song of all time, by a million miles, never get tired of hearing it, always gives me goosebumps, just love every single second - personally, I have never liked the label 'shoegaze', this is rock in it's purest form!

ya, both Ride & Catherine Wheel were both labeled as Shoegazer, but really rode that line between Shoegaze & that Textured Guitar british rock that bubbled up in the early 90s. Ride could also be tossed into that Jam Band style also.

NME (UK music "newspaper" New Musical Express") at the time carried a report about Ride playing this song live in Paris, which stated that when the song ended, the crowd was in stunned silence for a few moments before they erupted. Ride were very good live!

So glad you guys liked this. I first saw Ride at The Square in Harlow in the autumn of '89 when I was a student working behind the bar. They were on a promo tour for their first EP and they completely blew me away. I had a quick drink with them after the show. Nice guys, fairly quiet. Those first few EPS are stunning (I was going to suggest Close My Eyes, but thought this would make a more immediate impression). Their debut album Nowhere is also a classic. I don't think they got the adulation they deserved at the time, but it's nice to see them back and the 2 albums since they reformed are pretty good. Someone once said this track is the Stairway to Heaven of the Shoegazer scene and I kind of agree.

I will never tire of this song... Andy Bell's solo stuff is really good too

Neither Andy Bell nor Mak Gardener could particularly sing, but the band crafted brilliant songs. Again I would love to see you guys react to Ride - Time Machine. One of the dirtiest baselines ever. Other than Ride, I think you guys would like Happy Mondays - God's Cop, Ocean Colour Scene - Riverboat Song or 100 Mile High City, or a beautiful Beth Ortan song called Paris Train.
