Guys, this has to be one of the best videos you've done. At the advanced age of 54 I've decided to get my licence. Covid has put paid to that for the moment however my excellent instructor has trained me in exactly the same way and it's paying dividends whilst riding my 125. Thanks and keep up the good work!

Cheers guys, for anyone watching and thinking of doing some advanced training ROSPA or IAM, I started on my IAM journey in December last year and Tuesday last week I took my IAM test and I’m pleased to say I passed. Quite honestly the best thing I have ever done, not only has it made me a better motorcyclist but also a better car driver as many of the skills that you learn are transferable. Great video even though that’s how I now ride I really enjoyed it cheers chaps. 👍🏍

Great vid and very well explained. I'm an IAM advanced rider but it's great to be refreshed and see another advanced rider explain positioning.

Good stuff. What may seem to be common sense or something that comes to us as second nature is not the case for many. It makes sense to regularly review your riding habits to reinforce these lifesaving tricks so they become the norm. That point on establishing eye contact is another important form of non-verbal communication. It helps not only you but helps let the other road user know you have seen them & know they are there. Self-discipline can help keep you upright. 🏍👍

Great video! When I approach a junction with a vehicle at the head, I look at the font wheel. Wheel movement = vehicle movement. I ride exclusively in white helmets and have found looking at drivers helps get their attention too. Enjoy your content, happy to subscribe!

Another great video chaps. I'm currently going through my advanced rider training and the commentary you give is superb and absolutely spot on. So many people when they ride do it without thought or concentration and this perfectly makes the point about the amount of information you have to process to ride well.

Great video mark. Plus mate. It was not raining. You both have nice sun shine and dry roads. Well mark &Toby. Just changed my 1250 bandit. I down sized to a very strom dl 250. But I love it. No more tip toes. Nice flat footed. Nice and light big plus 88 to the gallon 310 miles to the tank. Happy days. I got the yellow and black one. You do a test ride on the 650 and 1000. Just found your videos recently and am slowly working through them. One comment about the reason for moving to the right when approaching a junction on the left, theres a lot more than just keeping further away from the danger. What you are doing is helping the drivers at the junction judge your approach speed better, our brains use the change in the angle from them to you during your approach to work out the approach speed. If you keep to the left of the lane the difference in angle is small so the drivers think you are approaching slowly and may pull out in front of you. If you keep to the right of the lane the difference in angle is greater so the driver will think you are approaching faster and will be less likely to pull out. Too late now but the video would have been better if Toby's camera was on his helmet, this would have showed his head movements better.

I like this video as it is calculated, smooth and enjoyable. The one issue I have - which has put me off looking to ROSPA qualifications etc - is that the 'over the shoulder glance' (left and right) would be expected as part of the qualification. I have a RT1200 (BMW) with good mirrors and, on these mirrors I have smaller circular mirrors (bottom right and adjustable) which gives me vision beyond an 'over the shoulder glance' but without the need to move the head at all, which I consider is even safer, but I doubt this would be acceptable to the examiners. My feelings are that, if you have modern-day accessories that eliminate the need for glancing back etc., then there is no need to glance back at all as long as you have checked these mirrors fully. Just a point I wanted to share. Having said that, thank you for a very good and informative video on what appears to be a lovely route!

Very good guys, it should be mandatory for other vehicle drivers to watch this type of video, if only we were all that observant, I include myself in that comment.

My IAM is on hold (Covid19) but had reached the 'ready for test' stage just before it all kicked off. Watching as many related IPSGA videos during lockdown to keep practising virtually. What I have noticed is that the UK system is awesome and compared to other countries, like Trumpistan, which feels like they're making it up as they go a long. They have all the right elements but it's just a mess....

Great video! Two points to raise, however. Firstly, I felt Toby did not anticipate the car turning right following his exit from the previous junction, and got caught in the wrong position, towards the right of his lane, stationary, behind it. He might have appeared to a following driver to be turning right, following the car ahead of him (despite no indication). Secondly, I had a wee intake of breath when Toby met the van on the corner! The closing speed appeared quite high on the video, and it made me think "don't go faster than you can see". Very pertinent in the Highlands of Scotland where summertime foreign tourists regularly appear on the wrong side of the road! Excellent video, and keep up the great work!

Really good, thanks! Question - When slowing from say NSL to 30, do you recommend using brakes, or slowing using engine braking? I’ve heard both recommended in my IAM training! My thought is that if someone is behind me I would be inclined to use brakes, to give him some information. If not, no need to use the brakes. What do you think?

Really good video. I find it harder to get the right position on tight left handers. Sacrifing position for safety means that you could be over to the left. Got caught out on a recent ride with a van coming the other way, when I was trying to get the view, and the vanishing point was not moving(very tight bend).

One thing guys I was wondering about couple of times already. When you are recording, do you have your intercoms active so Toby can hear what you are saying, and vice versa? Might be a stupid one, but I am curious :) Great video as always, and lots to learn from it definitely. Thanks!

All good road craft I am 41 years a biker and still learning. But what's the point in owning a mighty gs if you're never going to wind it up a bit ? Surely a 600cc bike would suffice and save 10 grand.

I got dumped on friday on FB messenger (Bullet dodges IMO) but trying to remain friends at the time I told her I had got home safe, and she asked what I was thinking about on the ride home. I don't think the answer she was expecting was "IPSGA, and I need a new pair of tyres next month". Shot that one down quick lol

If the wind you corse overtaking a bike nocks them off the you were to close to them

You keep looking over your shoulder when you pull out of a junction but if it’s clear when you pull out there can’t be anything coming up your inside and if there is then it was not safe for you to pull out.

How can someone come up the inside of you if the road was clear when you pulled out, no need to look on the inside behind all the time

Sorry, but like in your overtaking video, I have to comment on the ridiculous number of shoulder checks you are doing/advocating. The System in Roadcraft and the IAM Advanced Rider Course book is quite clear that you should CONSIDER a shoulder check. Doing them in a robotic, ride by numbers, manner is not adhering to that. I'd also ask what UK law says you have to pass cyclists by 1.5 meters? Yes, it's good practice. But a law? Much better to vary that distance depending on speed and situation. I'm in the other lane on 60mph road (if safe to do so). Also, what is the purpose of looking down the side roads as you pass them? It's too late then. I'm trying to be helpful not critical. No it would not impress me if you road fast but I think some of what you do is over the top .

If the car pulled out it would hit you it’s as simple as that.
