Stories of Bike

Күн бұрын

Having recently moved back to his home town in Atlanta, Georgia after working across the country, Lance describes what it's like to rediscover the city on his bike during a troubling time.
-----
RIDERS is a short-form, experimental series which came about from a conversation between Cam Elkins from Stories of Bike (based in Sydney, Australia) and Erik Jutras aka Mr. Pixelhead (based in San Francisco, USA). We both really enjoyed each others' work and came up with the idea to combine Erik's iconic black and white photography with Stories of Bike-style story-telling.
The RIDERS series is aiming to be a little experimental. By combining a unique photographic style, immersive sound design and minimalist synthesizer by Andrew Jones from @pipeburn soundtrack we hope to create a different kind of moto photo essay.
This episode features Lance Jones / actionjonze
With original film photography by Quintavius Oliver / film_god

I love this piece. It affirms the idea that motorcycles can be a vehicle for good. A foot in the door to meet others, start conversations, and see more of our world in a freer and more immersive manner. We ALL need to do things to broaden our community and our minds. People rarely hate people they have a civil conversation with, especially if they're both motorcyclists.

Another nice piece, Cam. Although, I wish it was longer so we could have learned more about Lance, his interest in bikes, why he chose the 1200 Scrambler, etc. It really is a shame that in 2020, we still have people (apparently some of whom posted here) who have a problem with someone because of the color of their skin. Honestly, who hell even has the time and energy anymore to hate?

I hear you. Lance and I spoke for about 2.5 hours all up and it hurt to have to condense that conversation down to 3 minutes. Unfortunately there's only so many photos that I have to work with to tell Lance's story and am limited by that. But feel free to reach out to Lance on IG, I'm sure he'd welcome a chat about his bike.

@@storiesofbike It does look a bit like hooliganism (not as much as 1:23 does - which is hooliganism). He's perfectly right to be in that state of mind. Given the context is quite small for people outside of the US. The world does not spin around the 3th world country that is the US.

Hooliganism? Which part of the photo makes you feel that way? Because my shirt is off? Because my face is covered? Because I'm standing on my motorcycle? My shirt is off because as a child, I couldn't run in my own neighborhood without one. My father didn't want my neighbors (predominantly white), to call the police on me. My face is covered because we are in a pandemic. I stand on the motorcycle because I knew it would be effective in drawing attention. Or do you bring up hooliganism for another reason...?

How is showing violent protests a positive thing? ...Whether it's from the seat of your motorcycle or broadcast on the news. This country will be more divided than ever as a result.
@storiesofbike
@storiesofbike 4 жыл бұрын
Showing the protest isn't a positive thing. It's a result of hurt and frustration. The black community try to do the right thing and good folks can only take so much before that hurt manifests itself into protest. You should see it as a reminder that work needs to be done to bring people together, not as a sign that your country is dividing.

So, someone who uses his bike to discover his home town, after loosing his parents, which turn out to be Atlanta - the epicenter of fucked up - where activists are currently protesting (some bad yes that's true), which the man is discovering, which affects him so much he talks about it. All of this makes you leave? Because a bike allowed a man to get around and discover his home town and what's currently happening in it? Stay and watch it again, you might learn a bit or two. Widen your perspective. It'll do you good.
