And because so many of us who take Greyhound are poor and or people of color, our lives are not valuable to them our time is not valuable to them. Just like the pandemic as a whole show to us

Many riders don't always have the financial means to go spend more (and sometimes much more) money on other forms of travel and we cant say its there fault. I got to see the last days of that bus station and will miss the convenience. Yes, Greyhound is a private company but we act like private companies have free reign and only have to answer to shareholders and corporate politicians instead of customers. Other cities on the East coast have managed to maintain or re-do their bus stations. I guess this is Philly's turn!!

The spokesperson was really saying that shelter and bathrooms was not their problem but went thru a song and dance to soft soap it. I absolutely despise "yes" people like that.

To be brutally frank, Greyhound does not care about those of us who are bus Travellers because with very few exceptions, we are mostly poor, disabled, and very often people of color. It's a poverty and class thing. We are considered disposable and throw away, our time is not valued, our lives are not valued. If the pandemic did anything, it brought out into Stark light the ugly truth that the poor and communities of color are consider to be disposable. It doesn't matter how hard we work how educated we are, if we fall below the poverty line, Greyhound doesn't give a damn about us. I went through a similar nightmare 2 years ago when I was on my way to to Chicago from New Jersey to meet some friends for a convention there. What was supposed to be an 18-hour trip took over three days, I missed 99% of the convention I paid for, I was sexually assaulted on one of the buses. It worked out okay for me because after another cancellation on what was supposed to be my bus back to New Jersey, I ended up staying with a dear friend and it turned into being able to move back to the midwest. I worked remotely so it was easier to adjust my schedule, but it was a hellish trip.

I also consider myself damn lucky because even though I had to spend close 224 hours in what passes for the c o t a terminal in Columbus which was basically a parking garage with disgusting overflowing porta potties, at least there was some place to wait that was marginally safe, and had a customer service person at a small kiosk. I can't recall her name, but God bless her because when my connection to Chicago was missed due to the other bus being late, she got me on the earliest bus possible even though it was still another 12-hour wait, and most importantly I did not have to pay for another ticket. This was a big deal to me because I am trying to build my financial situation up after both a nasty abusive divorce and nearly losing my life during the pandemic. But to be honest now it scares me to travel Greyhound in any way, because of the fact that there so very few stations even of the rudimentary kind. I have multiple health issues thanks to long covid, and the lack of access to bathroom facilities at those literal bus stops is a big no for me

Yes Greyhound and other companies are private businesses but the cities spend billions on transit systems yet can't build a place where all these buses can converge and connect with the city buses? That's what needs to be done for the citizenry, we can't expect Greyhound today to fund the costs of all these downtown bus stations while trying to compete with other companies who don't.

@@virtualwhispers When the previous owner (First Group) sold Greyhound to the current owner (Flix SE) the deal for the most part did not include bus stations or real estate. First kept them and either sold them to a developer or guess is leasing certain stations back to Flix because some of these stations are needed strategically for fueling and servicing of thru buses. The rest of the stations will go away as it just puts an undue financial burden on Greyhound when the competition is not forced to pay for stations. So Greyhound will turn into a curbside model in most cities just like everyone else. If there's a city transit station that Greyhound can use at a fair rent then they might take that but the days of company funded owned and operated bus stations all over the country sadly are over.

The city has no right to use taxpayer dollars to resolve this lack of service by a private company that's not even American based. FlixBus brought Greyhound Bus Lines 4 years ago. They're and England based company. The city knew they were moving there almost a year ago and never approached Greyhound about this decision that was clearly going to disrupt traffic. This is how Democrats run their cities. This is why Democrat run cities are filled with crime numbers that are off the chart. This is why city services are virtually non existent. Now because this story has made the news, the city wants to act like they see a problem with traffic. Jim Kenney, Darrell Clarke, Kenyatta Johnson, Isiah Thomas and the rest of the inept city did nothing. Matter of fact I think this is city council Helen Gym's district. She actually just ran for the Democrat nomination for mayor, but the loser lost. He never did anything about what was clearly a problem on the horizon. She was all over the issue of the Philadelphia 76ers trying to build an arena in center city. Also if the riders don't like the set-up, lack of accommodations, then don't spend your money on Greyhound, Peter Pan and the rest of them that are doing this. Sounds kind of stupid to complain about them, then turn around and financially support them.

@@exoressdelivers70 You would miss the point. It's funny that you responded only hours after I spoke with my buddy that drives for Greyhound. As of 1/2024 the city has had a new mayor and police commissioner for 4 weeks. Someone went to Greyhound and told them that they couldn't continue to pick up there any more. They're now at Front Street and Spring Garden Street. Face it Democrat led cities are filled with crime, trash, lawlessness, and lack accountability for rules. Look at Portland, Oregon. They just said that they are going to need federal assistance to help combat the drug epidemic because it has reached epidemic levels never before seen. I bet it has since they decriminalized drug use. I just watched a video of a 7 month pregnant woman in Portland shooting up with Fentanyl. She can't be arrested because they decriminalized drug use. Here's the link to go with your ignorance. share.newsbreak.com/63hokkas. Ignorance is bliss.

@@smitty03281964 Portland Or. The largest city in Or. is now just a flag stop! No depot here either. Noticed on the video passengers loading their own luggage. I remember the days when the drivers loaded your luggage & Greyhound went to most of the small cities throughout Oregon. Soon we will have a completely do it yourself operation company including driving the busses our selves the way things are going!
