Me too, but that brings with it a whole different set of problems that you, me and every other carrying driver better have squared away in our minds way ahead of time or we will all be cell sharing not ride sharing. If people feel the need to carry while driving, they need to comply with whatever the laws are for your state. If you don’t and someone gets shot, things will not go well. Training is also critical and should not be considered optional. People need to be proficient if they intend to carry while driving. You need to be able to hit what you are aiming at under stress. If you shoot, miss your attacker and kill or seriously injure an innocent bystander, you will probably go to jail and/or get sued for all you’ve got. Malfunctions can happen to anyone at any time. Less likely if you keep a clean machine. Clearing malfunctions quickly could mean the difference between being here and not being here. People need to be intimately familiar with the use of force laws for their state. A good shoot in Texas may not be a good shoot in Illinois. Taking a class that addresses shooting in and around cars may be a wise investment. It is probably good if the first time you hear rounds go off in a car is not when you life depends on it. Good to experience also what it’s like shooting through auto glass, how to get in and out fast, What qualifies as cover vs concealment on a vehicle. This may also be a class in which you can sort out yourself if the equipment you currently have works for a driver. In the non-permissive Uber world, concealed carry really means concealed. Drawing from concealment, dealing with the seatbelt, steering wheel and how to exit the vehicle can reveal your holster set up and position aren’t going to work, Better to find that out now. Role playing is an important element of training in terms of thinking about what could happen and what you should do in just about any scenario. For instance, in most rideshare related incidents, you are most likely to be put n a situation where you might think you have to draw from the drop, meaning an attacker is already pointing a gun at you and you would need tp draw aim and fire before your attacker does. Statistics show the odds aren’t in your favor given that scenario.. But what is effective here is the concept of waiting your turn. If someone has the drop on you, it may make more sense to initially cooperate and then wait for the moment where your attacker is focused on something else and then you can do what you need to do. This may also be a good time to talk about retention issues or making sure your gun stays your gun even when someone tries to take it. This is particularly important in the close quarters of a vehicle. Again, it may be a bad idea to try to draw your weapon with your seatbelt on and then try to orient yourself to one or more attackers 180 degrees behind you and well within arms reach. Under these conditions, a struggle for the gun is virtually guaranteed and that is a fight you cannot afford to lose. This might be where a good retention knife might come in handy. A better option may be to wait.Maybe it would be smarter to exit the vehicle first , then draw when you are clear and possibly have cover and can decide whether or not you still need to engage targets. Sorry, didn’t mean to go off on a wild goose chase and these remarks were not directed at you. I just think it is vital for anyone who wants to practice their right to be aware there are definitely responsibilities that go with it. I was fortunate to be trained by a lot of guys who were passionate about this stuff, treated it as if it was a life or death situation, because it is. They all could tell stories about what it looks like when things go well and also what happens when people get lazy and complacent. It’s too bad things are the way they are in this country and with this company in particular. In an ideal world, these are classes Uber would be conducting at the hubs. Some of the guys I knew quit contracting and opened. their own firearms schools. Next thing I know, I’m at a place they called The Site or Blackwater North out in western Illinois. I don’t think this place was even on the map. Hidden in a town of about 250, you drove an hour through cornfields, dodged cows on rutted mud roads, then you get to a non/descript farm fence, somebody makes a call, gate opens and you drive down a mile long gravel road that eventually opens up to look like a well groomed golf course, but it’s actually the 600 yd rifle range. That place had everything. Two fully furnished shoot houses for CQB a single level and a two-floor set up with cat walks above. About 20 different bays with different reactive target set ups. I learned so much crazy crap hanging out with these guys. There was a retired SEAL who was in charge of the place. He briefed us before we diid the CQB module telling us they lose more SEALS doing that than any other training 😳-so pay attention! Low light/No light shooting, Shoot/Move/Communicate, Shooting from cars Shooting around cars Basic Combat Trauma Care (never leave home without at least two tourniquets) Dang! I miss that stuff. But that was then and this is now. Worked in advertising for 40 years, but as soon as you turn 60, out you go gramps. Wife decided after 25 years that was a good time to bail and take the house and a lot of money. Started driving Uber after my plan to go teach English in Thailand exploded like a cluster bomb with the arrival of a certain virus. I drive here in Chicago 10p-8am 7 days a week now.The way it’s paying now , I’d be lucky i if xi could afford paper targets never mind 500 rounds of 9mm or .556. Never a dull moment driving around this crazy place! Stay safe!

Yeah I had a sketchy situation the other day where somebody ordered an Uber for their "baby brother" yet they were down the street and were telling me hey we're waving you down do you see us and when I drive a little closer I see multiple people and nobody looks like anyone's baby brother so I just took off

Totally agree. The getting out part really baffled me because he knew going into that situation that he was more than a llittle physically disadvantaged. Without lung capacity, every part of your body is affected, including your brain. The way the legal system works these days, getting out of the car creates a whole different dynamic. It has now transitioned from a verbal conflict to a physical conflict. And at that point I’m sure a lawyer could argue that in that transition you also went from victim to aggressor. I can’t remember how this transitioned to a fight, but I know in a public and business related setting, if you put your hands on a customer, it’s over for you, unless you get hit first. Even if he was carrying, what would his options have been? There is no “fear of imminent death or severe bodily harm” presented by a guy sitting in your back seat. You point a gun at that dude, he may get out of your car, but you’ll be screwed. Worse yet is if he calls your bluff and still won’t get out. Then what? Shoot the unarmed passenger? As you said, getting out opens a whole can of worms you don’t want any part of. Cops have the legal cover to deal with stuff like this and even with that, look at the legal problems they run into. Sounds like something to avoid at all costs.

@@Dahmy12 Oh cool! I always wanted to visit Salt Lake City. Plano I never had problems even when I went to South East Plano. Close to Garland. Though I would not Uber there or Oak Cliff at 3:00am because that is just asking for it. This particular incident happened in Lewisville near where that Walmart and Waffle House area also in broad daylight between 11:00am and 2:00pm. Glad I have a Dashcam because it was the times doing Uber in the ghetto where I got false reporting, lots of 1 stars, and less likely to get a tip. With a dash cam all of that was reduced by 90%. That is the part that really needs fixing. If Sergio needs to use his influence and access to shame Uber into doing the right (and probably legal) thing, that goes against one of the founding principles of this country. Uber shouldn’t help Peter because he knows somebody. Uber should be helping because that’s the law and it’s the law because it’s the right thing to do. It’s the old “justice denied to one is justice denied to all.” Sergio is a prince for offering his help, but Uber can’t be allowed to continue to benefit from avoiding their responsibility. This is the clearest example I have ever seen of how a toxic corporate mindset can poison every single decision and way of doing business at every level and every touch point. They just seem to naturally fall on the wrong side of every decision they make. It seems like everything is taken straight from the Rockefeller manual with elements of Scrooge & Marley sprinkled in.

Yes, if they forgot something in your car, they will send a message to them. They will send you a message to agree if you are okay for the rider to call you. If you agree then with your permission, they will give the rider your number. I only give permission to call me when someone left something in my car and It’s in my care. Bad economy and can’t afford to even rent a place of his own. I think him and his girlfriend are living in a hotel. So sad though! I pray God changes his story soon. It’s time for him to rest and enjoy the near end of his life and it seems to not be happening anytime soon. Heartbreaking.
