As well, I discuss maintenance needed to keep it running at top performance. Enjoy. Dan.
About Me:
Hello, my name is Dan Shannon. I grew up in a small town in New Brunswick, Canada. At a young age, I started working with tools. One of my favourite projects was using a scroll saw to make an old fashioned sleigh ornament in grade 8. As an adult I dove back into my love for woodworking. I’m married with two precious little girls, and I do my own renovations on the house. Also, I like to build my daughters and my wife useful keepsakes out of wood in the shop. I started this KZfaq channel in March of 2023 because I wanted to share the knowledge I had over the years working with tools, as well as sharing the quality of rigid pro grade tools and their service agreement. I’m not a professional by any stretch and I don’t claim to be. I would just like to help those who want to start a shop like I did. I really enjoy helping people especially with shop related topics. so whether you’re a professional or beginner we can all learn from each other out in the shop. Thanks for watching my videos and your support. I greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for an extremely informative video. The maintenance and cut depth sold me on my choice. I am looking forward to using the white oak and cherry harvested from our property. Well done Sir

My first thought on the video was I wonder if this guy who seems to own every rigid tool out there is going to give a good review on a rigid planer? surprisingly yes he did. Not a surprise really every Rigid tool Ive had has been excellent I have the same oscillating spindle/belt sander he does and have used it heavily for over a decade, thing still looks and runs like new Nice tip on the maintenance, never occurred to me to do that. I do regularly use car polish on my scroll saw table and it really helps keep things sliding freely, not sure why ii never occurred to me to do that on the planer tables too. Excellent, very informative video

I’ve had this planer for 6-7 years now. Very important to clean the rollers. Also, I always clean a bit of the roller, turn it on and off quickly to turn the rollers and clean that part of the rollers. I keep doing that until the rollers are all clean. BTW, I’ve never had the motor shut off on me. I never take more than 1/32 but rather take 1/64. Keep an eye on the blade too. If you are cutting hardwood you will need to keep rotating and replacing the blades.

@ShopTalkWithDanTheMan I have been researching it and really shouldn't be to difficult except for a ball bearing.

As far as power the normal cutting blades require less power because the is a little break between knives contacting the wood. Helical heads are in constant contact. An curious to see the results.

I have had one for several years and I have yet to be able to solve a recurring problem - the drive chain slips on the gears, causing random feeding pauses. I've tried adjusting the position of the gear rollers but it never works, it seems the chain is too long.

I know chains can stretch out over time will lots of use. Maybe contact Ridgid for a replacement chain. Also check the bolts around the rollers. Mine loosened up over time causing a similar issue. Hope that helped out troubleshooting the issue. Dan 😊

On mine, the indeed roller does not feed material anymore, after minimal use. Cutting 1/64 or 1/32 with every pass. Petty bummed out. Didn’t do the LSA registration, as I was trusting this would last, my bad,

Should be a 3 year limited warranty without registration online. If it’s before that I’d look into contacting Ridgid. Can’t hurt either way. Hope this helps. 🙂 Dan

Thanks Dan. That’s exactly what I did. I called Ridgid and the unit is at service center now as it is only a year old with less than 20hr of total operation. Fingers crossed.

How can you review anything and calling it the best if you are equipped and sponsored by Ridgid???😮😮

Not sponsored by RIDGID at all. Just a guy in a shop with a handful of tools. I have used many different brands over the years in carpentry. My takeaway with RIDGID tools compared to other brands is the LSA. Also replacement Batteries for life!!! Kinda hard to beat that when you are a small time hobbyist/carpenter. We all work hard for our money so why not buy a tool brand that backs their products long term. Just my thoughts. The goal is to get out in the shop and have fun no matter the brand or skill. Thanks 😊 Dan
