Thanks for this review! For the noise issue, you can purchase a ridgid muffler which also filters your exhaust end. Highly recommend for dampening sound, protecting ears, and decreasing dust blowing from the exhaust.

That 4 gallon vac is great... I have had mine since 2008, and works great... it's my dedicated basement workshop vac, even though I also have a Ridgid 12 gallon and a 14 gallon vacs... more is better than one and saves time... the long cord is definitely great... very seldom do I need an extension cord in my basement when using the WS4070. I use the 12 gallon in my garage and outdoors to clean the garage floor and vehicles, and to clean my stone & brick patio--great for those tree seeds, and other debris. I use the 14 gallon was my dedicated wet vac... I had rain water issue coming into my basement coming in from a boarded up basement window due to a raised patio that was installed years ago, and now replaced and the window removed and cinder blocks installed... I also use it when I clean the Naturestone on my garage floor in the spring for all the nasty black cinders and shit from the long winter that accumulates. Love my Ridgid wed/dry vacs !

We use a ridgid shopvac at work, it was there when I started and I’ve been there for 14 years so I’m thinking it must be 20 years old. It takes a lot of abuse and still runs strong. Every shopvac I’ve ever owned lasted 2 years or less. So if these newer ridgids are as good as the old ones there worth every penny.

I love mine! It's a huge change from those monster canisters. I have 2 canisters with broken wheels.

Thanks for the thorough review. One additional thing I would have liked to see is the options for the filters/bags. Some vacs come with disposable bags inside for the fine dust work, others use only the paper filter, while others use the paper filter with a sack over it. Always nice to know what it takes. However, you convinced me to return the unopened Stanley vac I bought earlier today and get this Ridgid model. Appreciate the good info.

Cool. I actually just gave mine a test never done before and ofcourse it wasn't the slightest bit phased by the 3ft by 2ft piece of plastic in my carryon luggage for travling. Gobbled that mess up in 30 seconds. Hopefully it didnt puncture the bag. Anyways good video, thanks for the reply and look forward to checking more into your profile when i have a chance.

In case anyone is wondering, you can upgrade to the larger 2 1/2" hose if needed, the inlet is the same for both hose sizes.

I ordered one today. Most folks don't realize how hard it is to find a good wet dry vac. After looking at them on Amazon. some of the one on Amazon would take to long to get even though I'm a prime member . Other the tank require a plastic ring that goes on between the tank and the top motor part that ring breaks yo are screwed . I said screw it and got one online from Home Depot. great video btw, thanks.

I ordered one.I have mostly hard wood floors and this canister vacuum should do the trick for under beds etc. I have a Larger Ridge shop vacuum but this one will be for in house duty.

You sold me one lol. I went right to Home Depot and bought one. I also bought the separate claw nozzle for the car. I wanted the power, but small overall vacuum and this one seems perfect. I'll have to see how it does on a wet car carpet(the reason I bought it). Thanks for the review it helped me make my decision about this product.

I have this model and I love it. Most people like myself don't need anything bigger than a couple gallon vacuum. This is a smaller size unit but has the same power as the much larger models. The wheel setup is good for vacuuming a floor so the model trails you versus rolling sideways into the wall or baseboards. The only thing I can complain about is the cheap 7' hose that comes with it. Do yourself a favor and before you even assemble it, buy the upgraded 10' hose. And if you use bags, which I do, buy them from ebay, you can get 10 bags for $20 vs 2 from HD for $13.

I just bought the WD 40500 which has no wheels and the plastic tub is not compromised for the wheels. I think that's where the 0.5 gal went to. I think ridged just kept the spec the same with the wheeled version

How on earth does the long, black, 2 piece attachment that comes with the vacuum, attach to the upgraded hose end? Sorry for the silly question, but I honestly can't figure out how the two connect, different size connector points? Am I overlooking a adapter? Ive been looking for a nice compact vac with big vac power and this fits the bill for my shop. My last shopvac bit the dust recently so im down to a lowes bucket head but it's not quite powerful enough for my uses.

I have an issue with the filter collapsing once wet. ( It does state to use it while wet vaccing , if not mistaken). Its a bad ass, but, I have water spitting out the back....dirty carpet water.

First time yesterday I used it to suck water, it created a pool of water. The piece that connects to the hose dislodged and separates from the bucket.

@Fran OHalloran just pull out the filter that's all. No special mechanism. Just pull hard and it will come off.

Just to set record straight power is equal to volts times amps. 120v x 9 amp = 1080 watts. About 746 watts per horse power = 1.4 HP. But all vacuum manufactures distort the HP ratings. They use in rush current which is marketing hype. So best way to compare power between vacuums is to look at amps. This one is good for a portable.

This is a awesome review. I own this vac and so far its worked out great for all my customer's cars i detail. Plus my own vehicles and home use. I bought mine second hand with no hose for 15 or 25 i forget. I ended up finding a hose that i could use that i already owned, well i think the vaccume is lacking performance somehow because i have a 1 inch hose(i think its 1 inch). Would you happen to know if im losing any preformance or damaging my vac by running a smaller hose? Great video by the way. Will like an subscribe. Ty

The title sounds ok after tou watch the video. However, it's misleading and you may be losing a sizeable amount of viewer's traffic just for that. It took me about 3 weeks to finally decide to watch your video and wow!, your rationale for such a title lit up. ......but still I suggest that you modify that title because your video is certainly one of the best that I had seen on this matter. Additionally, you may want to add the video clip of the water content inside of the vac and whether the filter was in place while suctioning the water. Thx.

Don't understand how this can be 5 HP. Description says current draw is 13 Amps. 120v * 13A = 1560Watts = 2.0 HP. A standard US electrical output provides 15Amps max. So there is no way this thing can be 5HP.

For a Wet Dry vac all I will use now is Ridgid. I have tried Craftsman and Shop Vac Wet Dry Vac's and they both have just been horrible vacuums to use the craftsman was the worst it just wanted to roll over all the time.
