Can't wait to go even faster when the new trains arrive, although I'll definitely miss the old.

You won't be going much faster. Thr trains are still limited by track speed.

@@erikgustafson1410 the new trains will b going around 165 mph, that's a pretty big difference to the original Acela

@@TravelingMadness959 Yeah but the train could go a lot faster if its not due to the tracks. We need dedicated high speed tracks to use the train to its potential. It's like buying a Bugatti or Lamborghini and trying to go fast on a bumpy road.

lol I wish Waze had a "rail" mode. Every time you're on the train and you get near a street, it automatically tries to put you on the street because it doesn't realize you're on a train.

Great video! Here's some early history on this route, as it's sort of hard to find and I figure if you're watching this, you'll find this interesting - This section of the NEC is called the "Stonington Line" -- I took a History of Rhode Island course at URI, which this line passes at 14:45. I did some research and wrote a short essay on this. This stretch was originally built in 1845 to get passengers between Boston and NYC in conjunction with the newly built Boston-Providence RR. Passengers would ride this line to the coastal town of Stonington, in which they would hop on a steamboat to continue their journey to NYC, avoiding the supposedly rough seas at point Judith and the additional time of having to travel down the Narragansett Bay by boat prior to the completion of this route. From Providence, the line takes you in a southwesterly direction just west of the Naragansett Bay. If you take a look at a topo map, this makes sense as western RI is quite a bit more hilly than closer to the bay. Instead of avoiding swamps like Post Road, this line was built cutting straight through these swamps. We have this nice straight alignment to thank for the 150mph speeds. The tracks then bank around Yawgoog "mountain" (14:28) and head towards Stonington, where you can see where the tracks would have ended by the water. This line also rather ominously passes by the location of the Great Swamp Massacre ( around 15:51), where hundreds of Native American men, woman, and children were massacred by English settlers.

I should of rode it back to NY instead of towards Boston but the last train is at like 5/6 PM 😭. Nonetheless I still caught a brief 150 mph moment for like 2 minutes

i like the high-speed trains!!!! it's like in InterCityExpress 508 between Munich and Berlin (Germany) orTGV between Lyon and Paris (France)! But the most important thing is to drive in an environmentally friendly way!

Riding the TGV from Brussels to Paris was an experience like no other for me. I had been living in Germany, which has decent higher speed trains, but the TGV just friggen flies at 300 kmh, it really is stunning.

Awesome ride on Amtrak Acela 2173 I miss riding the Acela it’s going to be weird once the Acela is replaced by the Avelias
@PGHammer21A
@PGHammer21A 3 жыл бұрын
The two trainsets will overlap - for the simple reason that there won't be enough Avelia Liberties to do am immediate replace - which is why I am looking to do a one up and other back (DC-NYC-DC). That will cross three (not two) items off the BL - never been to NYC (ever). no AMTRAK Business OR First Class since the days of the Metroliner (1979) and no Acela travel (ever)

Considering the Acela runs about twice the average car speed here, a reduction in travel time by about half stands to reason.

@@miltonappleby5642 That’s actually completely false. It’s true that there are faster trains in some, but very few, European and a few Asian countries. But your average HSR train usually goes at about Acela speeds. And the fleet wide TGV average speed is lower on the TGV in France even though it has the fastest trains on the continent. The average HSR train in Germany has a top speed like the Acela. They only have a few lines that are a tad faster. In other words, we should build fast HSR in the US. And Amtrak needs to continue it’s recent efforts to make the Acela even faster. But the Acela isn’t slow as is. It’s a good HSR train that can be made a lot faster if we wanted to invest the same kind of money that countries in Europe and Asia are investing.
