U can break the surface tension or what I do is like a kicking motion into the water. It still hurts like a fucker but the ride down is worth it.

Some people are bashing the cops.. people die in quarries all the time and if you drowned the 50 to 150 feet that they typically are you are putting someone else at risk to rescue you. I think police should be able to carry forms on them that they can have people doing sports like this to sign forms that give away their right for their body to be rescued and a 3,000 dollar retainer for potential services rendered in the event life rescue has to be used... Resources are used all of the time to save, rescue and etc... and not a penny paid back to the units that do the rescuing.
