"Back in 95 such a machine" its still such a machine in 23. Ive owned these bikes for nearly 25 years, 916, 996, 748 now 996 again but now alongside my third panigale now the latest V4. They all look & make you feel special no matter if you ride fast or not so fast but eveytime I go out on my 996 it makes me feel exactly the same as 25 years ago its that ducati feel & unless you've owned one its impossible to understand. One thing that always makes me smile is the same question I always get asked or commented on. Oh how do you ride that it looks so uncomfortable & oh "I couldnt ride that" and thats from lads in there 30's & 40's. I'll tell you a little secret. Its all about muscle memory & keeping yourself supple & fit. There's far to many riders out there that just cave in to getting older way before there time all because they cant be bothered to look after themselves & use it as a limp excuse to ride around on cruisers or those hideous looking multistrada things just because they're out of condition. There's nothing wrong with owning different types of bikes but don't judge sports bikes just because your out of shape.

I’ve kept my 748s since I bought it back in 2004. It’s still an event to ride after all these years. But don’t knock the Multistrada. The enduro version is a very capable bike. That you can ride for 9 hours straight and it’s quicker on most roads than sports bikes given the extra vision the higher position gives you.

I had one back in the day. Loved it but it did cost me a fair bit of money over the years. I think when audi bought Ducati over they did fix a lot of the electronic problems. I lost my lights once on a trip down south of Ireland when it started to rain. These bikes always remind me of watching Carl fogarty with my now departed father.

Great video keep them coming, I am luckily to own 996 SPS and it’s without doubt the best bike I have owned, the emotion from starting the bike to 5000rpm to 10000rpm in any gear is just wonderful, I also agree that the steering is a little slow, but the stability once leaned over is exceptional. Finally I will say that once you click with the bike it’s amazing how it handle. More videos please !!

that's the thing, trading quick steering for crazy in-corner stability (and especially bump compliance mid corner). Combine it's looks, the tractable intoxicating engine, great range (it's pretty economical), and rock solid handling over all types of roads...noting better (still) IMHO (916 owner since 95)

Love my 996. That sound. You just can't beat it. 112-115 hp is really all I need for the street. And I don't give up a lot when I go to track days. I even catch myself turning back to look at it when I enter the house just to admire the lines before I turn off the lights. What a bike.

I have a Monster 1000ie, air cooled but slightly prepared by Biggelaar in Holland from 82 to 105 bhp. For a long time I thought about buying a 916 (sps) to have something else but they are getting too expensive to ride on and have the risk of damage. There are also a lot of 916's here for sale with some shady history and the good ones fetch easily above 30k... Keep yours in good condition !

Massimo Tamburini did such a great job styling the 916, that's for sure. Ducati's styling fell off a cliff once he left, there isn't a modern Ducati that I'd spend my money on. Judging by the way you were laughing at the beginning, I'd say the 916 hasn't lost its appeal! I've never owned a 916, but do have an '02 MV Agusta F4, which I think Tamburini did an even better job in styling than the 916. If you can, you should ride something like an '07 Monster S4RS (I had one), and compare it to the 916. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!

I also never had a 748/916/996/998, but like you I have the F4 , 1st series, it was my dream bike. Unfortunately I've been riding 2 stroke sportsbikes all my life ( Cagiva Mito, Aprilia RS250) which I absolutely loved. The F4 although gorgeous with an a sound to die for is still a bulky inline 4, feels like a boat to me. Yesterday I test rode an early 748 from 1996 and it was absolutely PERFECT, Slim like a 2stroke, gorgeous, handling equivalent to the F4,sound is the best I've ever heard..

Good bikes just become old bikes with age - they don´t automatically turn into bad bikes! And often - at least for the more experienced among us - they are heaps more fun than those perfectly rideable tech-bombs with a dozen of electronic kindergarten-aunties on board. The 916 Ducati was the pinnacle of 90ies superbikes and even its looks inspired Yamaha´s R-series. It was no good commuter back then and still isn´t - but neither is a BMW 1000 RR.

@@theonlyredspecialMate I totally agree! They can be expensive however if you can do some fault finding yourself and fix it they aren’t too bad. The foggy days were great, I also remember Neil Hodgson racing the Orange one! Awesome! Thanks for sharing your memory’s of this beauty 🙌

@@jamescrawshaw71 I disagree, at the moment you can pick up a half-decent 748 for about 4-5 grand. A 916 is nearer 9-10, and the bikes are identical except for about 10bhp. The only time where I wish I had a bit more power is on a track where I get reeled in by litre bikes down the straights, only to go around them on the outside in corners... and there's things you can do to the 748 engine like the 853 kit (more power than the 916, or just replace the whole lump with a 999, 848, or 1098 motor if you want).

nice bike and great to see you're having fun. But, I think you're taking considerable risks on a public road. There is a lot of traffic and little roads joining yours. Someone could just not see you because they're distracted and till they do it's to late because a) you're to fast and b) you didn't expect the other road user to do something they shouldn't have. Doesn't matter how good you are as a rider.

Riding on the street and maintaining a little in reserve for safety's sake, the 916 would provide as enjoyable a ride as anything. You can cane all 100 hp of a 916, where on a 1299 or V4 Pani you might be at full throttle 1% of the time.

Funny thing about people like you is, you think the world needs saving and the best thing you can think of doing is to sit on your computer writing negative comments about what people are doing wrong!! Instead you could be ACTING on the problems and doing something about it! Go and get a job in politics or use your brain and find a new way of storing energy and make a difference to the world instead of talking about it…
