I was so excited to ride the A line when it opened, I booked a trip to Denver just to ride it and go to Union Station in 2017. While it's definitely got its issues (fare is not cheap, TOD is lacking), it was awesome to see true, Regional Rail service in an American city that was built in the 21st Century. The DIA station is impressive, too. Getting from DIA to downtown Denver used to be a downright awful experience but RTD made it nothing short of pleasant.

I'm retired from RTD and used to operate LRT trains and buses. The Commuter Rail trains are operated by Colorado Transit Partners a contractor for RTD. Sadly the Commuter Rail operators are paid less than RTD.

That is interesting, I thought that the Commuter Rail was operated by RTD (since they have the LRT operators). Thank you for sharing.

@@HOUExplorer A misguided Colorado Legislature in the 1990's passed legislation to require the District to privatize 50% percent of service, with the intent of breaking up our. union Amalgated Transit Union ATU Local 1001. We got the best of them though as our local unionized most of the contractors. Anyway I now have a retiree pass that allows me to ride all service free of charge to my heart's content. Worked there for over 30 years and no regrets.

had plans to visit denver sometime and use this train to get to where i needed to go. This video was a GREAT help in answering some back-of-the-mind questions I had about how to ride a train, and where you can store your luggage since I'd never been on one before! Thank you!

That train is the best investment they've made, ride it every time to union. Also the coffee is great offered on the platform

Denver appears to be an American city with pretty decent public transport, with many bus routes served by 1000 buses with 10,000 bus stops, and eleven rail lines with a total of 58 miles (93 km) of track, serving 44 stations. The C, D, E, F, L, R, W and H lines are light rail while the Airport A Line (opened 2016), B Line, G Line and N Line are commuter rail. There are further plans to invest billions to bringing frequent public transit within one-fourth of a mile of most of its residents. ( info from Wiki)

If only. The C and F lines have been permanently discontinued, the R line no longer runs as far as it used to, and of all the commuter rail lines, only the A line runs every 15 minutes and has lived up to expectations. The B line was supposed to run 41 miles to Longmont but only 6 miles of it have been completed with service running only once per hour, and there are no plans to finish it until at least the 2040s due to immense increases in costs.

It has all of that but has no high ridership numbers compared to many other cities with less.. ATLANTA and it's MARTA system.

Has ridership improved since COVID restrictions have relaxed? The only way drivers will get better pay is when trains are full and stations are full of riders waiting for trains and buses.

end of the month on august 25th i'll be taking going to Houston on train 1 and then returning to Lafayette on train 2 on august 31st

It’s like $12 for the day pass now I think, plus the “Airport” if the line is ever running which half the time it doesn’t have a driver, so… 😂

How long does it take to get to security once the train arrives at DIA? Never done this before, we would be leaving from Wadsworth station..

It's really quick. Once you have arrived the DIA station, (right in front of the station) take the escalators to the security gate.

😀 Most of us are, but every trip on the A, B, G, and N-Lines has an armed security guard checking each car just in case.

I would like to take RTD from airport to Ridge gate parkway. Do i need to purchase two tickets? One from airport to union station and then another one from union station to ridge gate parkway. Thank you!

Hello. There is no need to purchase two tickets. If you purchase the ticket from the Airport (cost is $10.50; Day Pass is the only option I believe), you have access to all local and regional rails and buses for the whole day. Nobody is riding the trains. There are too many empty seats. Denver has one of the biggest bus/rail system in the world and no one is riding it. All stations have five people or less boarding the train.
