In this video, Macky heads out to ride New Mexico's most iconic road ride, the Enchanted Circle Century. Starting in Taos, it passes through Questa, Red River, Eagle Nest and Angel Fire before returning to Taos. With almost 8,000 feet of climbing, it's a big one!

Rest in peace chipmunk. I can relate to that though. I spend the early summer and late summer dodging numerous seemingly suicidal frogs while riding through my state park. I don't know exactly how many I hit but it can't be zero. 😔

My friend calls me a goblin because of all the things i've found while riding. half of my tool box has road tools. tin snips, vice grips, many screw drivers, usb rechargeable shop light, and even a 12" flat crowbar :)

Luckily the crowbar was a few blocks from home. Vice grips for 30mi in a road jersey pocket is not ideal. Also I ran over a chipmunk on my gravel bike before also.. F's in chat

I grew up spending summers in that area before I was into cycling but I have been up since and have done the Taos Ski Valley climb (and descent) quite a few times. I need to do that ride next summer. Thanks for the video👍😀

Grounds Scores are the best! Even better on a tandem ride where the stoker has extra pocket space for wrenches and stuff. Best score to date was a massive crescent wench that was scored on a ride 15 some years back.

That's quite a ride. A couple of my friends rode the same route a day before you! I recently rode the caldera crest trail from Los Alamos to Abiqiu which took me about seven hours and can say that that day was made a lot better by a quality chamois and properly feeding myself.

@@jmdelapp it was about 3500 ft. Of climbing and 45 miles, starting at the ski hill parking lot. If you start from town it's closer to 5500 ft and 50-55 miles

This was an awesome video! A friend and I did a gravel/trail variation of the Enchanted Circle Loop over 3 days bikepacking style (much slower!), aptly named the "Enchanted Vortex"... it was amazing. The brewery near Eagles Nest was a nice stop.

Great effort Macky. As a roadie (not a very good one, but a roadie none the less...), I'd strongly recommend a cycle cap to go under the helmet, keeps the sweat out of your eyes, or, keeps your head a tiny bit warmer when it's cold.

Unfortunately for me I have not found anything but that's okay And yes you are absolutely 100% correct wash your shammy after a good long ride and you do pay for a good shammy you get what you pay for I have a pearlezum myself I also have a Wosawe that may be comfortable but it's split right in the front wasn't made very well so now I only use that with a pair of jeans for my mountain biking but I purl a zoom is still for my long distance traveling and my other odds and ends

And also excellent video beautiful views And it's quite odd that you are only hitting close to 50 55 mph You have my silence for one moment That I have done many times to chipmunks and squirrels On that part of the note I nearly got ran into a 21 buck antler when it decided to jump on top of the all-purpose trail at night and I almost didn't see it in time

I feel that chipmunk hit. I was showing my brother one of my local trails when he came to visit once and I came around a corner and took out a rabbit that decided to run across at the same time. MTB tire vs bunny rabbit is not a fair fight lol

How about a video on gravel bikes, I think a gravel bike may be the new road bike as not everyone rides on smooth, so why go with a 700x tire rather than the 650B? Is there an advantage to 1x systems vs 2x systems (stronger climber vs not so strong climber?). As some one who has a mountain bike for trail riding and an older road bike with 700x26c wheels that works for road riding I am interested in a gravel bike for road and lets say logging road/dirt road riding but not needing the mountain bike. Not overly concerned about brand but more on what features would be for who or specific to what. If you have already done this type of video could you point me to it, I am sure I am not the only one who would be interested in what you have to share regarding this topic.

Great effort Macky .... another use for chamois cream ... on long rides on the mtb wearing light weight knee pads I would get an irritation just above my knee caps as someone told me to try chamois cream

Do they really ride it the other way? Didn't know that...I haven't actually done it the other direction, but like it this way because I get to descend the canyon between Angel Fire and Taos and can go faster which I feel is a bit safer. And since that's the worst part of the race, car wise...

@@sydandmacky Normally, the Enchanted Circle event starts in Red River and goes to Questa, Taos, Angelfire, Eagle Nest finishing with the climb over Bobcat Pass, descending to the finish in Red River. Strong riding, BTW

That's an interesting question. In general, I'd say yes, assuming it's a hard ride (meaning you are working hard) and longer than 2 hours. I would probably limit calories at other points throughout the day though and be careful not to overeat post ride (which is easy to do)!

There are aero bikes and others like hill climb bikes. The difference is weight and shaping of tubes among other things. Something like the Trek Emonda is meant to be an all around bike

Personally I'd recommend a gravel bike unless you're planning to race. They have more relaxed geometries and work well on a variety of terrain types (pavement, gravel, light singletrack).

If you can afford carbon, even if it has lower end components, go for it because there are some performance benefits and then over time you can upgrade the components as they wear out. If that doesn't make sense for your budget though, don't stress it, aluminum is great too!

So I don't ride road bikes. Not that I have anything against them I just think they're boring. One issue I wanted to ask from one rider to another is that when you're riding road do you try to keep it in the bike lane or do you give zero F\/
