Things to improve on in the Future: 1: Carb tuning for lower idle. 2: It's an 85cc Two Stroke, you can rev it like a Honda S2K with no worries, I know it scares you to see how FAST it goes, but getting used to a higher sounding rev will get you there. 3: Shift handle for a Hand, not _Fingers._ 4: I'd love to see you try get this thing Street Legal with some Fabrication for an extra Jerry Can Somewhere on the Kart so you can go Longer Distances. 5: Fuel Gauge, Speedometer and other Gauges will help you keep the thing in check, increasing the Overall Longevity of the YZ85. 6: Headlights and Taillights and possibly Indicators for Night Runs. 7: Plastic/Lightweight Floor-boarding maybe? 8: More Open-air Exhaust setup possibly? Have fun with this thing in the meantime.

Can you actually make these things street legal? I'm just wondering? I have a spare Honda ATC 185 engine that has low hours and runs excellent. I'd build a kart like this if I could legally drive it on the street. I've never seen anyone with a street legal kart. These 3 wheelers were bought brand new in 83 ridden twice at Moses lake Eastern Washington then they got left out behind a shed for 25yrs. I got them off a buddy's GF when she had to move, her ex husband bought them,2 of em, a tree fell and smashed one so I took it too for parts. I've owned the good ATC and the spare engine & parts & stuff since 08. It's just sitting in my shed begging me to put it on something fun like this.

Great stuff!! Love your builds. Here are my thoughts: 1. Make sure your engine is not running lean. Could explain why your idle is a bit too high. Worst scenario is to damage your engine/cylinder/piston due to lack of oil. Been there done that. 2. I have build 2 karts, both were pulling left. Turned out that I had welded my left side C-bracket a bit higher compared to right side. This is also really easy to test: just lift your front end slowly and see if your left tire leaves the ground first. After that you can weld it again or just hammer it.

There is a time and place for everything, especially accidents. I admit, I would do it. I have projects too, not much different aside from being a trike. But it's longer, and the steering isn't so sharp. If he sneezes, he could fly off the road. It's cool as shit, don't get me wrong, but if he hits those brakes, or turns to avoid something... Maybe I'm over reacting... But he said it scares him, and that is good. It should. Show it respect. But it's pretty well built, he did a great job.

Looks mental quick buddy, nice build. One bit of advice, your trying to change gear with the clutch as a car would, you have a dirt bike engine in it, so use it like a dirt bike, ie: only use the clutch to pull off, when going through the gears snap the throttle shut change gear with no clutch then back on the throttle, when going down gear quick Snap down on the shifter no clutch, it goes in nice and smooth Your gear change will be crisp as hell and you won't miss shift at all.

You do know that the transmission is a constant mesh tranny. That means you don't need to clutch it on up shifts. Just put pressure on the shifter let up the throttle a bit and it will slip right into the next gear. You can do the same thing on down shifts if you blip the throttle at the right time.

Your shifting would improve markedly if you put a momentary kill button on the steering wheel spoke under your left thumb. Once you are underway pull up on the shift lever. When you need another gear keep the throttle floored, leave the clutch alone, and just give the kill button a light tap and release. The next gear is pulling and all you need to do for another is pull up on the shift lever and kiss the kill switch until you are out of gears. When done right it sounds a bit like an Indy car or F1 car getting up to speed. Been shifting bikes like this longer than you have been breathing and no trans problems yet....

I doubt balancing the tires will smooth out the ride. It is most likely just the roughness of the road that you feel. Go carts transfer every single ripple of the road to the driver due to small tires and no suspension. Seems like you still need to go larger on the driven sprocket. Starting from a standstill, still lugs too much.

Try 4oz of RV antifreeze in the tires it should be a fluid balance Canadian truck drivers do that in the steer axle to balance tires. Inertia does the rest, I had a truck with a lift and big tires and I used the equal powder and it worked under normal acceleration but hard acceleration they would shake because it's a powder it can't flow like a liquid.

Lower the idle, and use a sponge filter instead of that conic one, they suck on tho stroke... The best would be an airbox. Also, when shifting, don't use the clutch, let off the gas only a bit to where you are not accelerating nor decelerating, and then change gear without pulling the clutch. You will shift much faster and cleaner. Also, set the idle richer, as well as the lower band jet by at least 4-5 points, and the maximum band by 2. The low band seems lean as when you let off the throttle it crackles a lot. That air filter messes up the carburation. Good job

maybe could be a change when you check the tire pressure, its very delicate, even the smallest difference can make a change in steering reaction, i noticed that the right front tire in on a lower pressure then left, just check the vid, its easy to see, if the prerssure is too high, the tire will be more round, and will only touch the road in the middle, right seems right, left has too much pressure.. same as in the rear, if there is a difference, the kart wont drive straight, but will pull to one side, could explain why it feels that it pulls a little to the left, think its doesnt pull, but it gets pushed to the left bij the right rear tire...please check it with some quality tool

ThunderDivine the power curve of the yz85 is very low until it hits the power band. Remember, it is only an 85. They don’t have a power valve. On of the only ways to get more bottom end is v-force reeds, which are not only pricey but not necessarily. He will figure this thing out, it just takes time. Low end on that bike is always kind of quirky because it is made to be on the pipe

learn to powershift when you run it hard. eliminate clucth, and guaruteed shift everytime if you do it properly. when to unload and click, and roll on throttle immediately. idea is when you let off throttle for that split second, the transmission becomes unloaded, and in that split second you have the opportunity to seamlessly shift, and then roll throttle on hard and repeat. only need clutch for takeoffs. downshift the same way.
