Hello everyone! My name is Brent and I own Cerro Gordo Ghost Town. The abandoned mining town is at the end of a 7 mile dirt road. People often ask me how the road is leading to town, so I made of video of me riding up the road at sunset.
If you are planning on visiting, I recommend a 4WD vehicle with some clearance. It may not show in the video, but there are some rather rough patches along the way.
This is my secondary channel used for different types of content than my main explorations and renovations around the town. If you're interested in restoring abandoned towns, exploring old mines, and history, check out my main channel 'GhostTownLiving': / ghosttownliving

Thanks everyone for checking out this second channel! I hope it will be a space to explore different formats and lengths of videos. They might be super short recap videos or they might be two hours of nature hikes! We'll see. Let me know below any ideas you'd like to see in future videos.

It's your gig and all, but to be honest, I see no reason why videos like this would be out of place on the main. Be they on Saturday or any other day, sprinkling gems like this in the main would make missing a feature Saturday production less of a sad. I'll watch it here or there, but my 2 cents is there would certainly be no loss. Quite the opposite, actually, but then I don't much know how YT algorithm works, so I may be missing something.

What a neat idea! Thanks for taking us along. For those who have not traveled this road, there is no video that can give due sense to the angle of the grade. It looks so tame for a fabled road in the outback. Folks, this is one steep bugger. Kills transmissions on the way up. Kills brakes on the way down. Be prepared!!

I’ve actually driven up the road and been to Cerro Gordo, last time was about 16 years ago (the American Hotel was impressive). The road is tough. As someone who’s done a lot of trail driving in the west, it’s not technically difficult, but it’s steep, it’s twisty, and it’s narrow. How steep? Well, I was driving my, new the previous year, 2004 Silverado 2500HD and the heavy duty Alison truck transmission got as hot as I ever saw it go on the Cerro Gordo road. And that was in late March. That said, the road isn’t impossible. My grandfather took me up a couple of times as a kid, including once in a 1973 Pontiac Bonneville (although usually in his early 60s Chevy pickup). As a child, I spent a lot of time in the Eastern Sierras with my grandfather, who had good friends in Bishop, hunting, fishing, and exploring, and Cerro Gordo was part of that time. I introduced my wife and kids to it as we traveled along 395 to Mammoth and Reno.
