Fighting an industry that threw directors like Ridley, Coppola, Stone & others under the bus- all because they wanted to tell a GREAT STORY. & YES .. .Can we please DITCH the algorithm once & for all. It didn’t predict the infinite success of films like Bohemian Rhapsody or Whiplash & others. Give the FILMS & STORIES BACK to the audiences. That’s where CINEMA lives - with the audiences - NOT executives.

if i'm not mistaken, Ridley scott directed his very first feature film when he was 40 years old. So.. if anyone out there thinking it's too late. It's never too late! Get out there and do it!

@Big Chap That's not as unheard as you might think. A lot directors that started young (Spielberg, Paul Thomas Anderson, JJ Abrams, Duncan Jones, Ben Stiller, etc) did so because their parents were either already in the industry or had connections. Scott who came from a working class family in Northern England probably had a more normal career by just having to work his way to a feature.

I love this guy: "I was always criticised for being so visual until I realised that actually it's an advantage, because we are actually dealing in pictures dude, right?" I totally agree with him haha. His films are so visually striking in my opinion. Just about every frame is worthy of being put up on a wall. His use of space and colour is just phenomenal. Excellent interview, thank you for posting!

@@datatsushi2016 There is simply no respect for GREAT ART or those whom created it in this day & age. I heard how actor Ned Beatty (Deliverance, NetWork, All The Presidents Men) passed away on Monday. Not even a byline. But as you say… we’ll have a national day of mourning if one of those pathetic Kardashians hits the dust. What does that tell you about the importance & need for ART & ARTISTS in the world today.

Scott, Parker & Lyne - probably some of the most cinematic, beautifully shot films from the 70 & 80’s were executed by these giants of talent. Lyne’s 9 & 1/2 weeks & An Indecent Proposal took the world by storm. He seduced his audiences. Parker threw you off the cliff with bringing you into the world - Midnight Express & Ridley.... he needs no explanation - he just is IT!

No I have been attracted to this man's feature films and just cry at the scenes and laugh and cheer ! And I noticed that they were all directed by Ridley Scott. What an amazing incredible man, who has the great sense of being a part of the film, and yes, the lighting captures me in a way that I can't miss any part of the film! Just love you Ridley! ❤ I'm especially fond of Gladiator and Exodus: God's and Kings!

So Ridley Scott says he's always looking for strong characters ... female ... emphasis on visuals. I can see why he has Lady Gaga lined up to play Gucci's wife Reggiani. Can't wait to see that! @Khultan
@Khultan 4 жыл бұрын
@@allisonrogers1409 Oh, I see. Yeah, well, Dan O' Bannon did a proper horror sci-fi story, nothing commercial about it with some additions imported by Brandywine. Ridley Scott directed 1979's alien based off of Dan O' Bannon and Ronald Shusetts manuscript-the writing task handled by Dan. Parasite idea suggested by Ronald. Horror is not Ridley Scott's forte and he capitulated to the foolish studio interference so the sequel to Prometheus was nothing of it's original exploration but veered off into a watered down retread of alien 1979.

He's just blunt and to the point. Most people prefer it when someone dances around the subject rather than be direct. I personally prefer people like Ridley Scott who get to the point. And he does have stamina so why shouldn't he say so? He just made two new films and is already working on a new one about Napoleon. And he's in his 80's.
