Ridley is a living legend. Such an underrated director imo. Lot of people forget what masterpieces he's worked on.
@LockdLoaded6196 ай бұрын
I like his movies because they tend to be very bleak and full of dread. He's a cold film maker.
@kimdye46096 ай бұрын
I don't think he's underrated at all! If u love movies u know he's a brilliant filmaker!! Most know this!
@rizanvou6 ай бұрын
People don't praise him much because he fell off a long time ago. He has made a lot of movies but only very few of them stands out and he made them very early in his career and after that everything he made is terrible.
@karlydoc6 ай бұрын
Pretty much agree with that.I think his best film of recent years is"Kingdom of Heaven".better than "Gladiator".@@rizanvou

I find it absolutely fascinating when a director and an actor get to work together on a wide time scale. They evolve together.

He's a gem! This interview brought tears to my eyes, seeing someone who is about to turn 86, directing some of the most ambitious films of his career is priceless. Thank you for inspiring us, Sir Ridley Scott!

Were you able to get an interview with Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby now that the strike is over?

I had the honour of working with him in Hungary in the set of "The Martian". Ridley Scott has no intention of losing the title as "king of the director's cut", he always goes for grandiose, I have no doubt Napoleon will be a Masterpiece.

For me, the best of Ridley’s movies has always been his adaption of The Duelists, the costumes were superb and perfect historically wise, the story as well, and the background just magnificent. But with his other movies on the history of France such as Kingdom of Heaven or the Last Duel, it seems to me that he is very inspired by France’s rich history. Not only him but Hollywood as a whole with such movies as The Last Samurai being based on and inspired by French historical figures.

How did Joker “condone violence”? He’s a villain, just because we see his life from his perspective, it’s not to say that we should emulate him in any way.
@alcottdevalte74406 ай бұрын
Just hope that Napoleon is somewhat accurate and not a science fiction project Hollywood tends to do all the time with the biopics and real life characters. Just make it right for once.
@filmbuff27776 ай бұрын
You should watch Abel Gance's film Napoleon, which although is a silent film, is likely to still be far superior to this.

Joker condones violence ? It’s moments like that when you see an old man’s slip is showing… what a dumb thing to say, I mean actually ignorant (and I live Scott, I’m actually kind of disappointed to see him clearly either so full of himself that he can make a statement like that or losing it) and not because I love joker or take that opinion of the film personally but because if Joker ‘condones’ violence, by whatever rubric he’s using to make that judgement of that movie… the same judgement could be made of *at least* one his own films at this point in his career. either you believe violence is acceptable in film or you don’t, to whatever degree, and if you don’t then you a reason for that would be that you think by showing it, it somehow condones it… but you can’t say that as a filmmaker whose made really, and sometimes disturbingly, violent films yourself! Joker’s not condoning violence, it’s a character study of a really sick dude. It’s really strange to see someone I would have figured to be very intelligent so casually and confidently make such an idiotic and hypocritical statement…

You´re talking to Sir Ridley Scott. Using the word "fucking" like you´re talking to street rappers is disrespectful to say the least. Again shows the lack of education younger people have these days.
@JakesTakesTV4 ай бұрын
No one swears more than Ridley - he holds the record for most swear words ever spoken by a guest on my podcast. It’s called “matching energies.” Again, shows the lack of education older commenters have these days.

I saw the movie yesterday. Very disappointing. 4/10. The movie ends with a comedic shot of Napoleon keeling over to the side like the scene from The Princess Bride... Ridley Scott hasn't made a good movie since Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut

Ridley should have stopped making movies before Napoleon. That movie was trash. Utter disgrace
@filmbuff27776 ай бұрын
I highly doubt this will be as great as what Kubrick's Napoleon would have been like (Barry Lyndon is a good indication of that as some stuff that was planned for Napoleon went into this), or Abel Gance's 5 hour epic Napoleon, which is still breathtaking nearly 100 years later. Scott is one of the most overrated directors ever. If it wasn't for Alien or Blade Runner (the latter took decades & several versions to be "correct," he wouldn't be as highly regarded as he is. So called masterpieces like Gladiator, which is admittedly good, is still no where near as good as its reputation. 1 dimensional boring characters, run of the mill revenge story, CGI that sticks out like a sore thumb etc.
@jesseowenvillamor63486 ай бұрын
Nah. You're just insecure and just want to be a director and unable to do so.
