Hi and thanks for watching, Yes I remember them! I also had a pair for years. They where dangrious as foork :•) Can remember them getting loose all the time, sometimes at the worst times. When going fast by example. However you can get something similar these days, but more like hard plastic or you may find carbon fibre ones. www.etsy.com/listing/635394361/black-jam-strap-skate-strap-heel-strap

this is a great detailed review! wish vendors would go over the product like you did, slowly and in detail! I'm looking for a light figure skate boot and durable. I thought to get a boot that has a stitched sole and hard plastic bottom is lighter, as long as sturdy, I'm fine with that, I just dance outdoors. The only skate shop by me has these boots in my size. How are the 120s holding up, is there any separation at all from the sole or heel?
@dopeNL
@dopeNL 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ultra Hustle, thank you for your comment and compliment. I would say this is one of the reasons I made such a review and content. As indeed there is not much detailed information out there. So far the 120s have held up great! However, my skating style is more for dancing and exercise and expression on skates to the music I'm listening to at the time :-) They are not really made for bashing around as the leather boot dose scuff quite easily. but the build quality and comfort is great, alongside good support etc. Having been using them now for tw0 years they have lasted very well, and I have done another video on the skates. I have some new skating content coming up also. \ Perhaps I shall do another update to the skates two years on.. ;-P I would indeed go for them as they are a great start if you're going to dance etc And still as good as new in regards to the sole and binding.

Thank you for the in-depth and detailed video! My wife and I already put in an order for the Riedell Boost (111), and will have to wait about 6 weeks for them to restock. Now I’m considering canceling my order and upgrading to the Uptown’s (120) because I’m impatient. However, after watching this, I think it may be worth the investment. Would you recommend us upgrading? This would be our first pair of skates, and were both somewhere between beginner and intermediate skaters.
@dopeNL
@dopeNL 3 жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for watching. Is a good question, as skates can be for life, well until you wish for new ones, my last pair of skates lasted me over 20 years, (so is kind of a long time thing). So I would agree and make sure you invest in something you are going to have a lot of use from, and most of all be comfortable to wear and ride. That's the thing about skating it's not just for a quick five minute run. As they are so much fun and not so hard work as running (In my opinion), you will find yourself wanting to skate more and more, and you will then "hence" be wearing them for a long time, (I hope). Well I think the main difference with the Riedell skate boots are, the quality and softness of the leather and also the type of boot that will fit your type of foot. Type of foot I hear you say??? I would personally (As I did this for my own fitting) Download, print and use the Boot fitting guide Riedell have on their website. Once you have measured your feet, there is a guide/chart on the website that will help you find the right boot for your feet's shape and size. As this is one of the main differences with the boot types / Numbers. Alongside a difference in how and where the boot is manufactured and how comfortable they will be and the price. The Higher the price, the more custom the boots are. On trying to answer your direct question, the 120 are a little more expensive I think, and a wider boot fitting, (I have broadfeet wide). There also made in Taiwan not the US as are the 111. I also know that feeling of waiting for your boots, Hence why I actually cusom made my boots over waiting for the pre-made boots from Riedell, It was going to be a 12 week wait for me due to some kind of holidays etc, and a back log of work in the factory due to the newly launched MOXI?MAXI skate sister brand. Taking so many new orders and caused this longer waiting time. SO I found a suppler where I could go Try the boot on for fitting, and Purchased the boot loose. Then I ordered the Base-plates and bearings from Germany, the wheels came from another place in the Netherlands. etc, etc. I had my boots within 7 days then, however they did end up costing me more than I would of done from the pre-made model. Juice or Angels (I think there called. On a plus side, this alowed me also to make them more custom with the wheels, laces etc I also had the chance to build my own skates again. So that was also fun. I hope this helps and good luck with your skates and new skating adventures! If you have any more questions feel free to ask away. Cheers dopeNL (Nico') p.s sorry for rambling on :-)

What are the heels made of? I just bought some vintage but unused 120 riedell with wooden heels. How fast are those bearings and wheels??
@dopeNL
@dopeNL 4 жыл бұрын
The heals on the 120’s are made of a hard plastic rubber material, quite hard actually less prone to water damage over the wooden heals. The bearings are ok, I normally use precision bearings with a rating of 7 or 9. I have noticed they do get dry quite quick as there not completely sealed. (the inner side is open. But as long as you keep them lubricated there fine. I have also Bulldog bearings abec 9 very quick bearings, however you can’t find them anywhere). The wheels are quite good also but ware quite quick also, the text fades real quick! Im used to using the old sims street snakes (for over 20 years actually) but they are slightly wider wheel base.. :•) good luck and have fun with your skates.

How heavy would you say those plates are?🤔 I'm trying to upgrade my plate and I'm leaning toward the reactor neo, but the whole reason I want to upgrade is because my plates are really heavy and I want to get lighter ones but I have no idea how much the reactor neos weigh.
@dopeNL
@dopeNL 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kristen, Thanks for your question. Te Powerdyne plates have a great range of plates to offer. It's quite a valid point. if you are coming from a plastic/polyurethane plate the Neo are indeed a bit heavier than your normal plates, although I don't really notice it while skating. I am not able to give you the exact weight specifications as I never weighed them before mounting them, and there is no information on the Riedell website in regards to actual individual weights of the plates. The Neo plates are in the middle of the price range @€180 (for me) But the Reactor pro plates version I think are a little lighter due to the type of aluminium used 6066 0ver the Reactor Neo plates 6061. Only slightly but twice the price almost @ around €299. I would now if I was going to build a new pair of skate, perhaps go for the much lighter and cheeper (well €100 for the pair) Powerdyne FUSE plates. As you will really notice the difference in weight as they are super light, but still very very strong due to being moulded out of composite carbon fibre. So as we know should be super strong actually. But if like me you like the look of the aluminium plates they not to bad in comparison to the older aluminium types and steel plates. Also, the weight is varied on the size of the plates, mine are a size 9 plate. size 9./12 boot. So are big and you can feel the weight of them when carrying them by hand, but I don't notice it while skating tbh. Hope this is helpful to you if you have any more questions feel free to ask. How did you know which 6 of the 8 holes to use for mounting?
@dopeNL
@dopeNL 3 жыл бұрын
Hi and thank for watching, I think 🤔 you must be referring to the base plates right? If so you always mount the front with all 4 holes due to the way you want your foot/toe control to work, so your not just twisting the boot and not the plates. Also to ensure safety and control. The heal fixing only really needs to be fixed at the rear so the heal stays firm with the rear of the plate. Also just for preference of preserving the heal dosen’t lose mass due to the holes being so close. If thats not what you mean? please explain :•) Keep skating! on a side note the plates I had mounted at a derby skate shop. And was also the way she mounted them :•)

Hello Tony and thank you for your question. Skate wheels come in various hardnesses and sizes. The skate rating refers to the hardness of the wheel 78A, 88A, 100A etc, the lower the number the softer the wheel. Softness 78A = More grip and smoother, grip = more friction and less speed. 100A Less grip,, Less friction and bumpy, more speed and quicker to wear out, get flat spots. And the :A: rating would be in relation to the type of surfaces and skate style you have, Slippy slidey skate dancers use a medium 88A 92A rating and skateboarders would use an even harder wheel, 98A - 104A. On the streets for street skating on public paths, roads etc I would use 78A as these tend to be more comfortable and move over bumps, pavement cracks etc move more easily and smoothly outside. I have used 78A most of my skating life (over 30 years) and find these to be good both indoors and out, Ok I don't get the fancy slip tricks, and funky speed dance moves so easily. However, they do last a long time and find I don't change the wheels just because I am going to skate indoors or out. They are quite universal. I would love to try a harder wheel to see if my skating style would change and be a little less effort to make some dance moves, however, I have yet to find a good 82A - 88A that I would like to use, As for Brands of a wheel, I have only ever used "Street Snakes" (78A) and "Radar Energy" (78A) size 62mm on my skates and my skateboard wheels at 104A (so very hard) 54mm small Wheels. The Ridell Radar wheels are a good range of wheels, but I would say I don't like the way they some of them don't use a centre bearing carrier and are a single pressed wheel. So this will factor on there life span In my experience. you do want a bearing carrier in the wheel itself, It's a harder polyurethane centre insert that's built into the wheel (The orange bits in my wheels you can see in the video). Over a simple wheel with the non-insetted bearing carrier. As you state you on the heavier skaters side, (not sure what that means) Perhaps a little bigger than most people? As normal is a big word. I am quite slim and very light (62K) So the 78A's have been fine over time, Being a little on the heavy side (let's say 120K) you might need to think about a harder wheel (96A), but I would say you could go for a decent 78A through to 88A to start with as these will be good both indoors and outdoors. Also would depend on your skill level and skating requirements/desires. I.e Skate dancer, Skate freestyler or simple skating about for fun. As what brand to go for? It would simply depend on your chouse of wheel A rating, wheel size 54mm through to 68mm, also the colour of the wheels vary. As not all wheels are in all rating sizes or colours. The street snakes wheels I use are only available in 62mm - 78A however in lots of colours. The Radar Energy Wheel comes in various colours, sizes and ratings. (See Ridel website for info on them. So for a recap, I hope I have provided you with some valued information and stared you towards the wheels you like If you have any further questions or would like more detailed information. You would have to be a little more specific as to your Skill level, Skating styles, and perhaps actual size, as heaver side is a matter of perspective. :-) I could steer you towards a few website's I use for parts, But I am in Europe. Hope this helps! Cheers dopeNL (Nico)

@@dopeNL thank you this did help I will be keeping this in mind when I order my skates. I also did peep you are in Europe I had to look up how much 120K was in lbs lol. But from what I got so basically the best wheels I should try for my size indoors are maybe a 92a and then the 78a- 88a would he a decent choice also? I am more of a rhythm skater top and want to learn more tricks in that style so does this also maybe narrow it down a little bit to what wheels I should get or are those options still good ones to consider?
@dopeNL
@dopeNL 3 жыл бұрын
Ah ok 👍🏼 For rhythm skating, the people i know use 88a - 92a as they say they are better for slides and wiggle moves while dancing :•) Thats why I wanted to try some slightly hard wheels. But so far the Radar energy wheels @78a have been fine due to the narrow gauge wheel, the street snakes are a little wider. But both have been great on the street and indoors. you’ll have to try some, I know there is a webshop on line somewhere that can send you a set of various wheels to test, for a small fee...

@dopeNL 3 жыл бұрын
Hey hello and thank you for your comment, question. I would do what I did to get the perfect size boot fitting. Firstly I went to the Riedell website and downloaded the resizing and fitting guide. You can print it and take some measurements with a tape measure for the correct sizing guide. As the various boot styles have different fittings, Wide feet etc the guide can be found here and I would say is 99% accurate for choosing the correct size boot. www.roller.riedellskates.com/sizing-help I hope this helps, as I am from the UK and had to convert my UK size to us/ then Euro ;) I ended up with a size 9 1/2 boot. However, if I buy Nike's they are a UK size 9 (US 10) euro 43 Etnies I have a size of UK 85 / US 9.5 and euro 42.5 So as you can imagine it all depends on the way the shoe/boot is made. I used the guide and then found a local shop/suppler who could do a proper boot fitting, as to make sure they would fit. Which they did. So the size guide is pretty accurate to use. Best of Luck! and no worries you will fund the correct size1 :-)

Hi and thanks for your question. Actually, my shoe size is EU 42.5 or 8.5 UK size. American sizes also differ. This also differs from the brand of shoe I might have. I personally downloaded the Riedell Shoe/Boot measuring chart for my exact fit, Available from the Riedell website to download and print. This would be my advice, as the Riedell boots are also different widths in regards to their boot types/styles. The 120's are a wider fitting by example than the 220's Cheers dopeNL

Ahh I had to think about your comment for a little bit. The difference in the 120's you mention is the difference in the sets that are pre-made by Riedell www.roller.riedellskates.com/Catalog/Roller-Skate-Sets/Rhythm-Skate-Sets/Set-120-Juice The wheels and baseplates that are fitted are the main differences, alongside the bearings. The boot "120" is the same boot in each set. My boots 120 are custom made and have the same baseplate as the Juice boots-set, (Link above). Powerdyne Reactor plates. I hope this helps...
