It’s Cowboys & Aliens in the Wild Wild West! How could a sci-fi western about either of those things possibly be bad?
A sleepy western town has been overrun. Not by varmints, but by D-list actor cameos! No amount of fame is too minor or fleeting to warrant disproportionate amounts of screentime!
Issac Hayes! Julie Newmar! And of course a rarely seen acting appearance by professional meme sharer George Takei!
Standing in their way is the evil alien Redeye, who has fallen on hard times after his successful southern gravy campaign. He’s in a bad mood, possibly because whatever his cheap lizard mask is made of is itching like hell, maybe even causing a lifelong skin condition. At the very least it certainly can’t smell very good.
All this, plus sexy cyborgs, steampunk sidekicks, some actually pretty cool stop motion effects, that creepy guy from Twin Peaks, (no, not that one, the other one), and zero, we repeat ZERO huge robot spiders! Join Mike, Kevin, and Bill for Oblivion!

I love how every character in this town looks like the main character of a different movie, and they're all imitations of characters from better movies. You've got the Mad Max guy, the Underworld guy, the western guy, the futuristic western guy. And drunk George Takei.

Very strange, but ultimately enjoyable camp comedy. George Takei is a hoot. The ceiling fans all through town is a nice touch.

About 20 years ago I tried to rent this from Netflix, they sent it to me 3 different times and all copies were broken. So I email the screen writer Peter David. Who was most know for writing the hulk, Aquaman, and Star Trek. And he responded denying responsibility and claiming he was proud of them. I still don’t believe him. 😂

I love this movie! Space western before Firefly and the actors are all just having a blast. The bingo hall service for the sheriff was a wonderfully written scene.

not since parts of Alien from LA or Deathstalker have a seen a movie trying THIS hard, and yet crushing my will to live HARDER. Watching this unriffed feels like it would physically age the viewer by five years for every watch, this is *_aggressively_* bad. >:C

Gotta love that they dunk on this 1994 movie for making a joke referencing a 1960s Schlitz ad campaign…when MST3K made a joke referencing the same slogan in the Dragon and the Sword episode also released in 1994. 😂

I enjoy this movie, riffs or not. It's a bad scifi movie that doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is. Bet you money that they had a good time making it, even as they knew it was not high art.

At 42:05, when the woman says, "You're a dreamer," the followup riff is "But he's not the only one!" Interesting choice. Personally, I think I might've gone with, "Well, can you put your hands in your head? Oh, no!"

BACKLASH: OBLIVION 2 was also riffed. I'm sure there would have been a third film, but by the time the second movie was released Full Moon Entertainment was cut off from Paramount's money and probably couldn't afford it.

From the director Sam Irvin: Seated next to me is our brilliant Italian cinematographer Adolfo Bartoli. Adolfo was a larger-than-life character - kind of an Italian version of Yosemite Sam. At times, he could be a gruff personality with some less-experienced crew members and, I’ve heard through the grapevine, with some directors. He did not suffer fools gladly - and poking the bear was not recommended. Nevertheless, he and I completely hit it off, totally respected one another, and saw eye-to-eye on how we wanted our films to look. We got along swimmingly, joking with each other, and completing each other’s sentences. One day, one of our actors, Oscar-winner Isaac Hayes, was observing our playful camaraderie and said, “You guys need to get a room!” Being Italian, Adolfo was not familiar with this American expression - so it took a few seconds for him to comprehend the wisecrack. Adolfo glared at Isaac. Uh-oh. Had the line been crossed? Then Adolfo looked at me. I looked back at him, trying to decipher if his macho manhood had been threatened to the breaking point. The next thing I knew, Adolfo put his right hand on my left shoulder blade and, with his left hand, took my right hand and stretched it out in a proper waltz stance. He began to sing the notes of “The Blue Danube Waltz” - “da-da-da-da-daaaa, da-da, da-da…” and waltzed me around the set as the cast and crew howled with laughter. We might have coined the term “bromance” that very day.
