Great video, there are more choices today for swingouts, lot of options. I bought a Wilco Offset about three years ago, a hitch mount with a wedge so you do not have any movement, it's really solid. I have a pair of jerry cans and hi-lift added with a 33" tire. It pivots on poly bushings like a leaf spring bushing. Secured with a large push/pull pin with T handle. I does extend the rear hitch about 4-6" and effects departure angle. I've considered buying a Relentless rear bumper with swingout....someday.

I think another down side of having the bumper is in terms of carrying stuff. Say you are going to buy some furniture & you need to leave your tail gate open when carrying it, you can’t do that with the bumper. The ability to remove the RIGD is what I think makes it pretty sick.

I wonder if mine does well because I live in Idaho and it is really dry up here. What part of the country are you from? Also what eventually failed on yours that made it unusable. At my current rate it looks like I will get 2-3 years out of it. For the price, I'm fine with that. My hunch is the ones that cost 3 times as much probably don't last longer than 3 years either.

Could they maybe drill a PIN hole a little different to give CLOSER placement to the rear of the vehicle?? (Rigd) I was looking at a bumper with swing out- which isn't that much different in price- but I don't want to add that much weight. I'm putting an EXTENDED gas tank on my GX which takes up the spare tire spot underneath but gives me 56 gallons instead of 23.. but the bumper is HEAVIER..

Another main concern is with the Rigd is if you are pulling a horse trailer or any type of trailer, the trailer's jack stand would get in the way of the swing arm therefore not allowing it to swing out fully to open the tailgate. You would have to unhook your trailer first just to have access to your tailgate. Hmmmm

Is the backup camera still useful with the expedition one? Looks like a good gap for it still. I'd rather not relocate it, and most of the swing out style bumpers block it entirely.

Good question... with the rigd you need to move the camera if you want to use it... with the Expedition 1 it really depends on the size of the spare and how you mount it... Since the camping side is on the passenger side - almost 'all' the time - why would RIGD make the swing-out swing towards the passenger side forcing you to walk around the swing-out at camp when you are going from the truck bed to camp. Why would they have not made the swing out toward the driver's side?
@OutdoorAuto
@OutdoorAuto 3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm... Interesting question. I guess I have never thought about what is the "Camping Side" of my truck... for me it is usually dictated by the camping spot. For people with soft top tents I could see them coordinating which way it opens with the swing out and for sure having a "Camping side"... Now I am curious... For most people is there a particular side you consider your camping side?

It may be because the person doing the opening the most often is the driver. I would also assume that it is getting opened far more often than just at camp so the walking around at camp gets outweighed by the many other times it’s being opened when not at camp.

Can anyone who ownes either of these bumpers comment on my fear that putting this much weight this far behind the rear axle causes instability in the truck? Especially the Expedition One, with a 40" tire and a couple of rotopacs?
@OutdoorAuto
@OutdoorAuto 2 жыл бұрын
I just ran the Expedition One in Baja a 2nd time, with a 37" (they do not rate it for a 40" tire) and two 5 gallon Jerry Cans (larger than Roto packs) plus a ProEagle Jack.... no issues with instability even at 80 MPH in the desert trails.... We hit some WHoops sections and also jumped the truck... bumper held up fine.... the issue isn't really the bumper... it is having your suspension dialed in for carrying that much weight. I have after market Deavers and triple bypass shocks that make it easy to program for that weight. You need to know the total weight you intend to add to the bed of the truck before you pick your Leafsprings/Add a leaf, shocks and sometimes even airbags.... depending on your setup.
