I heard another coach phrase it like the entire "assembly" of parts, the arms, wrists and hands, drop down as opposed to artificially shallowing the clubhead to lower the plane. This is the misunderstanding many players get stuck on thinking they're shallowing the clubhead and shaft below the plane. I did this very thing until I got the aha moment and the entire assembly of parts shallows and then you can move as fast as your body will let you at this point. Best feeling I've ver had hitting drivers once I got this grooved. Way more speed and ridiculously tight dispersion pattern. Awesome video showing this all happening!

Good comment - when you look at moving the dumbbell in the drill there are clearly many parts that are moving. The point is the lead arm is going down on the trail side of the body, not going across the body too early. Supination, wrist extension, elbow extension, arm lowering - these are all parts that are happening when you lower the dumbbell like you see in the video.

@@AltaViewGolf Good stuff. Lowering the whole works and feeling really shallow moving through impact is blissful as so repeatable once you groove it for a while.

I like this feel but seems like it would be hard to close the club face with this move . Is this only way to close the club face would be rotating hard . Because this move will def leave the club face a little open a little

Thanks, I get something like the right move if I now feel tht I am aiming the back of the club face at the ball from the top of the swing. Like continuing the backward movement of the back of the club face that occurred in the backswing, right? i.e not switching attention from moving the back of the club face back to the top to moving the clubface forward to start the downswing, which seemed more intuitively logical to my mind. I found I could do this move if I put a tennis ball down the club shaft to the hosel and filled it full of lead fishing weights. The only way your mind and body can compute a return to the ball is via a shallower path with something like the move that you are describing. Only Godzilla could come over the top with the weight on. Also with the extra weight it is difficult to manipulate the club to the inside at the start of the backswing. You are more or less forced to use body rotation to initiate the swing in the way that you describe. Thanks again.

Uncurling behind you on the downswing will help square the clubface.

Yes - not intuitive at first but the external rotation of the trail arm moves the trail hand more behind you - you have to get rid of the urge to fire the trail hand right to the ball from the apex of the hand height.

How do you square it up after the twist?

Upper arm rotation on the lead arm is key. It is easier to control the face with upper arm rotation vs forearm rotation. The trail arm elbow sweeps in tight across the body and the lead upper arm is rotating externally - at impact the lead arm bicep is basically pointing to the target like and if you haven't rotated the lead forearm then that brings the club case square. And continue to rotate the lead arm externally through impact. You aren't trying to flip the club face with the wrists or forearms, let the upper arms rotate in a smooth arc to the left.

That is a good quick recap of what you see with this motion - the elbow comes in closer to the body so the thumb rotates away from the body and the right elbow goes from above to under the lead elbow - thanks for the comment and hope you find other videos on the channel of interest!

Everytime I try to turn the right arm away, I feel like I can't generate enough lag on the downswing. Maybe I'm not doing something right, but I do like the actual simple idea of turning the right arm away from the ball. Moving the right arm close to or in the direction of the ball means you're going over the top.
