www.buymeacoffee.com/scottied... Says it right there in the California Commercial Driver Handbook, Keep your Trailer Tires Close to the Curb When Making Right Turns.

Here in California, it is ILLEGAL to skip lanes when making a right turn. However, if you are driving an elongated vehicle, there is good reason to turn wide, and perhaps turn into both lanes. Otherwise, by California state law, one should always turn into the rightmost lane when making a right turn. The other exception I will claim allowable is if one's destination requires them to skip lanes.

+Andrew do you have that exact law so I can read it? I have been trying to find it for 2 years. I know it says it in the commercial drivers handbook but can't find it as an actual law anywhere.

I was able to find it once again: www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/pubs/hdbk/turns Scroll down to "Examples Of Right and Left Turns"

I would say it is better to use your best judgement for each situation. I made these series of videos as my rebuttal to an online social media trucker argument about double right turns. They are sort of a lark because I was going strictly by what the book said at the time to keep the debate going.

Good tip. Pretty stressful going into new cities not knowing if you will clear the turn.

I been reading up on the CDL rules in SC in preparation for me to convert my Australian license to USA. I can't understand why the rule that we have hasn't been adopted there for the long rigs and semi trailers, which will make it lot more safer and create less damage to infrastructures. Here If a large vehicle such as semi trailers need to make a turn they are permitted to go to the next lane and make the turn. On the back of our rigs we have "DO NOT OVER TAKE TURNING VEHICLE" Which means what it says. No other vehicle is permitted to pass or over take while your making the turn. trailers in US now are average 53' with conventional cabbed prime movers so you will need that extra space. If the Do Not Overtake turning Vehicle rule was introduced in the US then things will go lot more smoothly.
@westsidetrucker79436 жыл бұрын
Arty Zearo we have a similar sign in the US. On certain trailers, on the left you'll see a sign saying passing side. On the right is a sign that says suicide.

Aww now Scottie. Just slide the switches up. And Transport you and your rig. Into the parking lot! And after getting your donuts. Then reverse the switches and beam back out to the street!! LOL

To add another comment: A lot of times, the truck driver has to move some to the left to make the right turn. That's to avoid the trailer bouncing off the curb, or tearing something else up on the right side.

You should post your thoughts, info, and this video on Trucking Truth. The right hand turn argument is going on there hot and heavy right now. It's a forum for newbies; I'm not a member, I just read there. TTR is too heated for me; I'll leave that to you big boys!! I'm here to learn, not debate....ya know?

Can I ask, I am driving a Class B truck and I assume you were driving a Class A vehicle. Can I watch Class A turning videos to learn how to make turns using a Class B vehicles? I'm sorry if this doesn't make any sense.
@robb.6757 жыл бұрын
I can understand why that rule is in the book. Invariably, some idiot will try to turn right in between the truck and the curb. I've seen it happen before. Fortunately, not to me.
@scottied677 жыл бұрын
The rule is in the book for sure but you would not believe the amount of pushback from truckers that I get who insist when there are 2 right turn lanes, we must be in the far left outside right turn lane. I argue, what about the book? it says keep your trailer tires close to the curb? What about Googling right turn big rig crashes and it just about breaks the internet with the massive amount of data downloading.

Where I live, the Freaks live here year round. When it gets warmer, the camp by the French Broad River and harass the tubers and canoeist who have spent money for the chance to float down the river. At least during the warm weather, the Freaks do spend some time in the river and keep some of the grunge washed off them. The rest of the time, they lay around the downtown streets and beg for change.

Morning, Scotty! Oh, if only I could post one of my famous memes on here... In this circumstance, based on what I could see, that corner gave you no option other than to essentially occupy both lanes. If I'm not mistaken, it appeared as though you had straddled the line a little just before the turn, which I would have done as well, although maybe just a tad more so, while still keeping the gap closed enough to prevent cars coming up either lane. Again, this is based on my limited, computer screen view. Have you called CHP yet..? Keep safe, friend.
@scottied677 жыл бұрын
I had done that turn from the outside once years ago before out famous thread debate and nearly crunched a car. When that question came up I remembered my near accident turn and made my famous argument for right lane right double turns. No need to call the CHP to confirm what I already know is right lol

ok what a bout a dual right turn lane into a 3 lane road, can you then use the outside lane and creep left into lane 3, and end up in the middle lane? seems smarter than cutting of the left right turners.... i have searched everywhere and cant find this answer...

Why did you even climb that giant hill when all you had to do was turn right just over the bridge through Bullhead City right into Needles? All four lane and just a few miles and you are right at I-40 ,no hills just a straight shot down the Colorado River .
