Watercolor paint consistency, how to mix the right amount at the right time. Watercolour beginner tutorial.
My PATREON MEMBERSHIP PAGE: www.patreon.com/user/membersh... - in addition to ad-free content you get exclusive content (new videos will be more in depth than those on my KZfaq channel), hi-resolution reference photos, photos of my finished painting, and drawing outlines where available. Other benefits are also included.
My teaching manual: Mastering Watercolors - A Practical Guide: amzn.to/3ZF2FRW
In this episode we paint a lovely sunset over a lagoon scene. I focus on teaching you how to mix the right consistency paint, to place at the right place, with the right brush, on paper which is at the right wetness. Well, I get you on your journey at least.
As in all of this series up till now, colors are limited to just three - Winsor Blue (Red Shade), Permanent Rose, and Winsor Lemon. All are Winsor and Newton colors. Only two brushes are used - size 8 and size 12. Also painting size is limited to just 11" x 7.5". These constraints are to keep costs down while the student decides if watercolor is for them. If they do decide to continue then the number of colors and brushes will be increased in future more advanced videos.
If you are a beginner, and this is the first of my videos in this series you are watching, then I highly recommend that you go back and begin at Watercolor Class One and do the exercises in each. These exercises are what I used to put my beginner face-to-face students through, before allowing them to progress to more advanced subjects. Even now, before a student, new to watercolor, can join my online class they have to first prove they have studied and applied this beginner lessons. In this way, new students are able to more easily join my more advanced classes.
I also have a couple of watercolor painting books which I published and distribute through Amazon.
The first one, which has sold over 10,000 copies is bascially my teaching manual and is titled:
Mastering Watercolors - A Practical Guide.
The second is full of step by step demonstrations and is titled: Watercolor Step By Step: amzn.to/3z4YXEu
Both books are available in kindle format and paperback.
You can also find a lot of useful information on my website: www.paintingwithwatercolors.com/

Thank you for creating the awareness we so often miss. It makes it so much easier if you know why you must be very aware of your paint consistency.

@@JoeCartwright it is obvious that you like teaching. You are excellent and your organization skills are suburb. I can paint. I make my living as an artist and am very grateful. However, I do not have your keen skills to teach people a tough medium so it becomes intuitive. Keep up your teaching and continue to inspire others to learn the skills you demonstrate so well Kathryn

Really enjoyed watching this! It was interesting to note that you didn't tape your paper down after wetting, and it still stayed flat! Is it unnecessary to tape it?
@JoeCartwright

Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, I rarely tape my paintings these days. This video I made explains my process: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nJmDn7Foz8zcgqs.html

Did you wet the front of the paper at all?
@JoeCartwright
@JoeCartwright 2 жыл бұрын
No I did not wet the front of the paper. Otherwise the color I mixed for the sky would have been diluted by the extra water on the paper.

I usually paint standing, except when I am teaching face to face. In that case I sit, so people can look over my shoulder.
